My Doors Are Driving Me Nuts! (video)
Hey guys. So both of my doors just do not function like they should. Driver's side needs a new pin, but the other I'm really not sure. The passenger door has no sag and feels really pretty nice, but when I go to shut it, it takes far too much effort. I have to tell everyone to "Slam it like you mean it!" which just isn't right. I took a video of the door shutting. Maybe it'll help. I don't know much about setting doors and any help/opinions would be great!

Mine does the same but figured it needs to be lubed. That and the window requlator are on my list. I will be interested in what others have to say about it.....

Mine does the same thing, I got new seals and found that was the issue, I heated my seals with a heat gun and shut the doors while they were still warm and left them alone for a few days, the seals formed around the door really well after that point and they now shut like new. Dont know if your seals are new but from the looks of your truck I am assuming they are. Hope this helps.

Are the gaskets newer and just nice and tight? Also, i wonder if you're latch isn't perfectly lined up, you can adjust it a little on the cab side. If you get it perfect you won't feel it until the first "catch" hits. If it's off, it makes the door try to ride up or down to latch, which takes some momentum out of it.
In the video that door looks low on the back, but it's dark and the truck is dark so it's hard to see, guessing just the way the video shows, you'd see it if it looked off in that way.

Thanks for the insight guys! The seals are newer, so I'll definitely look into getting those set.
cortcomp...I noticed that when I open the door, initially it feels like it's "popping" off. It feels like it drops just a hair. So maybe it's the latch not being quite aligned and the seals being too stiff. I'll let you guys know what happens! Any other opinions are welcome Also, sorry for the dark video. I'll get some lights on her and take another when I start tinkering. |

Either crack down the windows before shutting or something isn't lined up. Perhaps your hinges are working against each other?

I'm no expert but I have done a few doors with good results. First verify the hinges are good by lifting up on the door in the open position. If there is slop in the pin you gotta replace them. Next sit in the cab and shut a sheet of paper in the door at various points using it as a feeler guage to figure out where it shuts too tightly or too loosely. For example does the leading edge of the door "bang" into the jamb prior to the trailing, (or latching) edge. This would necessitate a hard slam because of the need to overcome the resistance as the front of the door prematurely meets the jamb while the latch is still aproaching it's target. The paper will tell the story. It shouldn't tear but have a little friction all the way around. Look for odd variances( as too tight in front and no friction in back or on top.etc) then find a pal remove the fender and cab corner and work it out. The hinges adjust for in and out at the door and up and down at the pillar. I like to make my trail run with the catch removed and my helper pushing in on the door so I can test with the paper. Once I feel it's squared up I reinstall the catch and adjust it. When you're done replace the cab corner and fender being sure to adjust them so they don't hit the door and mar your paint. Be patient

Forgot to mention this...driver's side door is sagging. Discovered it is missing 2 bolts for the hinges. Anyone know what kind of bolt to get at the hardware store??
