door panel issue

I cant get the panel off the inside of the drivers side door. How do I get the window crank and door crank off so I can get the panel off to fix the door opener? Included pics.

thanks,

paul

Re: door panel issue

push the panel back enough to look in agap behind the handles, there will be a little U clip you need a scribe or a ice pick to push it off the groove, or you can buy a small tool to remove the clips

Re: door panel issue

Ok thats good to know. Thanks. Do I remove those drak brown gaskets first to get the tool in there? Looks to me like I must first remove those. And its not obvious how to do that either.

thank you,

paul

Re: door panel issue

when you put the handles back on put the clip in the groove of the handle first then pop the whole assembly on with the palm of your hand

Re: door panel issue

Getting the tool is well worth the $5 or so - all the truck parts suppliers have them, here is one on Amazon so you can see what they look like:

Amazon.com: CRL Door Handle and Window Crank... Amazon.com: CRL Door Handle and Window Crank...
Makes the job a lot easier both on and off.

Re: door panel issue

I made a "tool" by taking one of the metal strips that are along the sides of some wiper blades and bending a short hook at the end (about 1/8" and slightly more than 90 degrees). Just insert it through the loop at the end of the clip and pull. Works better for me than that tool shown above.

I got one off once with a screwdriver, a BFH and a lot of cussing.

Yup, that's what I started with and then evolved to the piece from the wiper blade. I think it is a little easier to use. both work well though.

Re: door panel issue

To remove the handles just wrap a shop rag around the part with the clip
then pull one end of the rag
Have it on a clean surface cause the sping will jump to who knows where.

Re: door panel issue

Skip all this hassle... Take a thin cloth or old shirt, insert behind the handle, make a full circle and the clip will be in the rag. Works EVERY time

Re: door panel issue

Thanks to all for the responses. Im overwhelmed with options. You guys are the best!

All of you were also indispensable when I needed info on installing a trailer brake controller. One post pointed out exactly the correct wire to tap into for the brake signal.
