Factory big block with trailing arms?

I know, no pics or it didn't happen. My buddy came over with his '69 SWB stepper that is a factory BB truck, I sold him a rear end and thought nothing of it till I saw the truck and realized it should be leaf rear? Right? SPID has 396 listed, he was in a hurry to get his kid from school so I just glanced at said SPID. Next time he is over I will get more info and pics.
He claims that his step-dad has owned the truck since new or shortly thereafter. I am not new to these trucks by no means but am not the final authority either, many more here who are much more knowledgeable. What gives?

The VIN tag will tell you when it was "born". It could be a very early '69 using the 68 suspension.

Re: Factory big block with trailing arms?

Coil springs were the default with a Big Block. The the trans. determined the axle used. In 69 three-speed manual or automatics were 3.07 12-bolts and the two four-speeds were 3.54 D60 SF axles on coils or leafs.
