distributor issue?
While changing points on my 250 6cyl I noticed the edge og the distributor cap poles are burned as if that is where it's firing and not the center. Any one got an idea.?

A small amount of burning in this area is normal. If it has brass terms. they do better then the aluminum ones. If it is excessive, replace the cap.

From your question, I assume you're thinking the timing is off. Spark (arc) occurs when the points open so check the point gap carefully and then the engine timing.
As wrenchbender says, pitting or burning of the posts is normal after years of use and cap and rotor should be replaced if you're not sure when they were replaced last. I prefer the better quality kits and usually replace everything including the condenser at the same time.

I will do that first thing. I can't find the timing mark on my balancer so I have to make one. Thanks for the feedback.
