Steering column question

I have a 3 on the tree column but putting a floor shift for the 3 speed. The column is still good but has the shifter collar for a 3 speed and I'd like to get rid of it, can I use a 4 speed collar,or do I have to find a four speed column, and how hard is the collar to change if I find one

It would be easiest to swap in A four speed column. I have never seen just the collar for sale so you would probably have to buy the wheole column anyway.

I have seen guys cut the mounting point off where the column shift fits and fill it in. Im not sure if it was on this forum or elsewhere on the net. I cant recall what was used to fill the hole. Maybe JB Weld?

I did it on a tilt column than was out of a van. It had a issue with the shifter handle being loose in the area where the retention pin was so I ground it down filled it with fiber strand [short hair] and sanded it smooth then primed it with high build primer. The top collar the screw holes that held the shift indicator on I welded them up ground them down the other hole I filled with the fiber strand as well. After it is all done, it looks very much like a tilt column for a floor shift. I am planning a hybrid T-5 Camaro/S-10 trans in one of my 70's that I am building.
