2500hd wont run 8.1

Have a 2001 2500HD with the 8.1. Bought it as a project. It wasnt running so i replaced the fuel pump and it went to running fine. i let it sit over the winter and fired it up the other day and had a bad skip to it. A few weeks later it wont hardly run at all. When it does start it will idle rough and wont take the gas. I just changed out the fuel filter. ( looked like jelly inside). Could it be the fuel pump again?

yup good old ethanol gas gums everything up. what brand of pump did you install?, did you know ethanol starts going bad after only 30 days

You may have to get new fuel lines or flush the old ones out. Same with the rail and injectors. Next time, get an ac delco or Delphi pump. They will last a lot longer. 50% of the airtex pumps I install will come back within in 2 years. They will make tons of noise or cause a no start.

You can spend a little more now, or a lot more later.


Some of these trucks, especially with the 6.0, will idle very very low if the truck has been sitting for a long time or if the battery goes dead.

like he sadi ac delco or dephi i refuse to install an airtex pump at work anymore most come back with in 6 months dead
