Soda blasting

Hi Guys
Have any of you used soda blasting for paint removal. My 69 has 4 paint colors on it and needs to be stripped. I have done the chemical removal many times and its messy. Same with sand blasting, taking a chance streching the metal and of course sand everywhere. I watched soda blasting on Youtube and some of them use a water stream to control dust, makes me worry about bare metal getting wet.

Be sure and read the whole thread because there are some pros & cons, and some alternatives. I would say check with your painter about the different methods and see what he says.

Maybe not practical for a whole vehicle, but have a look at Norton blue rapdstrip disks. There are cheap versions, but these last better.

May be a stupid Question, but can you use a pressure washer for it?

Soda blasting leaves a residue on the metal that prevents the metal from rusting. I know it sounds strange. But there is a chemical reaction that cause it to make a sealant residue. You do need to wash with soap and water after if you want to paint it.

A painter I know told me that the Soda Blast was a nuisance. He said the residue wasnt easy to fully remove and it gave him painting problems.

Dont know personally as I havent tried it- I have always done it manually.

My painter insisted on soda blasting. I had all the sheet metal, inside and out, and the frame done. Of course it had 2 resprays of the original color plus 4 macco type repaints of various dark greens. Came out like a brand new shiny nickel.

I use a local media blasting business that uses walnut shells to remove paint. He says that the walnut shells do an amazing job with rusty metal with less residue left behind. He has blasted a bunch of our stuff and everything came out super nice.
