wheel well undercoating

I was told not to use the traditional wheel well undercoating but instead to use a spray in bed liner type material for inside the wheel wells. Does anybody have any suggestions?

If you're looking for a DIY spray-in bed liner coating, I recommend U-POL's Raptor bed liner coating.

I've been using this new stuff found at Harbor Freight. Its called Iron Armor and is a black rubberized undercoating. They have a standard and a pro version....don't know what the difference is other than $.50 a can. Part #60786 and runs $5.49 a can. So far I've been pleased with the product. Won't really know how good it is until a year or two down the road. But for now I'm happy with it. I read on a few Jeep forums and some other car forums where people have been happy with it and haven't read any complaints yet.

I just used the 3M Body Schutz that I sprayed under the cab on the underside of the rear fender wells and inside of the front fenders. Any of the other products mentioned would work well, too.

It is quite a bit more work, but you asked for suggestions, I did a wrinkle black powder coat on my inner fenders and it hides all of the small dents and dings you would see from under the hood and also is super tough and has handled the rocks and road dirt flung up by the tires for the last two years.
It is also quite a curiosity at car shows second most popular question I get is "how did you get the wheel wells to look so good?"

I used raptor liner under the hood, inside the fenders and in the wheel wells of the wife's 57 step side. Turned out great.

most of the rubberized coatings are a brown color when dry. though good at coating, i didn't like the brown color. you can get bed liner in rattle cans that is black when dry, but about $17 a can. I think it was duplicolor just my .02

I agree, the duplicolor bed liner in a rattle can works great.

I've used rattle can stuff, 3M Body Schutz, and U-Pol Raptor. The Raptor is the answer IMHO. I'll never use any other product for this type of application again.

markeb01--on the raptor, what pressure did you shoot it at? looks pretty smooth and nice of course.

It's been a while, but pretty sure I had the pressure set at 60 psi at the wall. It's easy to change the finish by increasing/decreasing the pressure, or changing the distance from the surface. I shot a few pieces of cardboard until I found the appearance I liked best, and stayed with those settings.
