Button on dash

I've got a push button on the left hand side of my dash next to the gauges. I pressed it when the truck was running and it killed the motor.

Does anyone have any idea what this button is suppose to be used for. I have a hard time believing that it is some kind of factory kill switch.

my truck is a 71 . i've got a factory tach in the dash.

its prolly aftermarket although those kind of things are usually on diesels unless its used to prevent the spark from working... did you have to hit that switch again before it started back up?

The switch looks factory original. Kinda strange I cant imagine why they would have a kill switch like that.

I didnt have to push it again to start the truck.

yoop is the upper penninsula (U.P.) of michigan. people from the UP (yoop) are reffered to as yoopers.

as unfortunate as it is i am a displaced yooper and currently live in green bay wisconsin.

way back when !!! they used to put switches like that to kill the spark and you coast along for a few seconds pumping the gas realesing the switch to reignite the engine with a very loud backfire. isn't real good for the engine or exhaust system but deffinately fun when accompanied by a six-pack and roll yer owns

Yeah ...that 'ol trick works great when combined with a 'flame thrower' kit on your exhaust.

If you really wanna fire 'em up pull the choke out while pumping the pedal....

Maybe I should put a disclaimer in here somewhere.......or go into the muffler business.
