I'm not liking this

Something is not right. Just dosen't look good to me. Maybe if thie base was black. I have thought about returing the interior color back to stock.
I am sure someone on here has an opinion..

Maybe with a nice wood grain steering wheel - or stock, it would look right to you. Still doesnt look bad at all, very nice!

Re: I'm not liking this

The column might be ok, but that wheel...
When GM designers chose fawn as the standard interior color, they did so because it looks good against nearly any exterior color. Thems was some smart peepo.

Everything but that steering wheel looks good to me. That wheel really drags it down though.

True, the fawn does go with about anything.
But Why have yours look like everyone elses?

Re: I'm not liking this

I guess I should have mentioned that I will not be keeping the steering wheel. It is just there for now. I have a stock custom steering wheel. I guess when it is all together I might look at it differntly. I will be painting the steering column also. It is a tilt column that came out of... Well.. A GMC .

Well, I find that the restrictive aspect of rigid conformity seems less of a problem if one never has to face the embarrassment of having made a poor decision. Ha! The real reason is because it looks good!

Re: I'm not liking this

I like the color, but the leather wrap wheel and wood HAVE to go. It makes the truck look like those weird wood-paneled basements us Irishmen had in the 70-80's

Black inserts (carbon fiber patterned vinyl) buffed hardware, and any base color imaginable (white in my case)...

Re: I'm not liking this

As functional as they are, the round gauges are the worst looking part to me. Even if you don't make it completely stock, doing a new cluster and changing all the things that should have been black back to black would really fix it up.

Re: I'm not liking this

When trucks are somewhat customized, I like machined chrome behind gauges. Woodgrain may be cheapening the appearance though it might look decent when seeing it in person. Glad your'e replacing steering stuff. If you go black behind the cluster, I would recommend chrome surrounds. I googled "images of 1966 GMC dash boards" and saw several pictures of modified gauge set ups.

Re: I'm not liking this

I think it will look fine with a clean looking wheel and painted column. But the woodgrain is a bit much. Remeber those station wagons from the late 70's?

Re: I'm not liking this

I might go to the sheetmetal shop and have him punch me out a stainless steel one. If I don't like that then I can paint that black. The steering wheel is only there for now, and i will be painting the column. I just wanted feedback on the gauges. I guess I should have mention that..
