3 door pickup conversion ?

Last night I looked at a 71 3 door sub. conversion. It had the back cut off like a pickup a drop down tailgate. It reminded me of a ford unibody pickup. The owner said it had been a conversion bought new like this, does anyone know if this was a conversion offered when it would have been new or a home built.

I'll try to get pics. The guy who has it said he would take 3500 for it. He is kinda cautious type, my friend who took me there is going to ask him if its ok to take some pics. I have not seen a collection of 55-57's old 40's car and trucks even big trucks in a long time. There was a completely restored 56 wagon that he restored and put back into a barn for 10 years ago. All this stuff and not even 15 miles away from my house.
