Finished my 1963 SWB

Well, I bought this truck, a 1963 SWB out of Albuquerque NM back on February 2 2014. The plan was to just get it running , clean it up and sell it. Well it turned in to much more than that. I've had a bunch of parts, chassis parts from Early Classics, 1983 front sub and a 454 from my old 1965 GMC just sitting in the basement. I've been collecting, among other parts, some different vintage wheels, from Torque Thrust Ds from the 60s, ET 5 spokes and what I've been dying to try are what you see on the truck finished, is a set of Motor Wheel Spyders, all in 5 inch bolt pattern. Something different.

The truck is powered by a 454 I built when I was still a Machinist at Micks Auto in Racine Wi. Trans is a 400 turbo with a 3000 stall converter and a 3:73 posi from a 1968 Chevy C10 that I bought through this site a month ago. I drove it for the first time today and its a lot of fun. Stops and steers quick and is hard to keep from pushing on the pedal . I still need an exhaust but the guy is quite backed up so it will be a few weeks, built a temporary system that's sounds good and functions for now. Much more to do but we have a car show here in town this Sunday so I set a goal to get it done !

One very unexpected thing happened during this experience ! Another member, AEROTRUK walked up my driveway late one afternoon !?!?! What a guy to say the least ! Here Im working on 63s ? and Great person and a lot of fun to talk to !!!!

The company that made these only lasted about 5 years ? roughly 1968-1972 Motor Wheel made Spyders, Flies and Flys. If you look at pictures of Bob Gliddens early pro stock Pinto ? He had magnesium versions of these Spyders in the rear and Flys on the front.

Re: Finished my 1963 SWB

Heres a few more detail shots. New bedwood kit. I painted the wood black satin then hit the high spots with the sander to make it look worn then cleared it with satin clear. Will eventually paint the strips black to. Seat is something I had saved and is actually a 64 pattern. I decided to go full heater delete and radio delete also.

Re: Finished my 1963 SWB

Which engine mounts and brackets did you use, the '68-'71?

With a 3000 stall and 3.73's she oughta scoot.

Your truck is perfect! This is exactly the look I want to go for with my 63. What kind of drop and what size tires did you go with?

Re: Finished my 1963 SWB

if you soak the carriage bolts in the bed in vinegar over night it'll take the plating off and give it a nice aged look. Did it on some lug nuts on my '64 vette that I run steelies on.. came out perfect.
