Bag Height at Ride Height, Is This Too Short?

Just mocked up the frame and crossmember at the ride height I want, and bolted up the bags to see how tall they would be at ride height. I notched the frame rails 1.5" to raise the crossmember, similar effect as pancaking the crossmember. That made the crossember and LCA pivots up level with the frame rails.

The frame rails are sitting on 4x4" tubing, as is the bag. Rockers are about 5.5" off the ground. I'd like this to be my ride height, but I think the bags will be compressed too much? They're Airlift D2600's and are 4.75" tall as is. I'm building my own tubular A-arms so I can make the bottom bag mount however high it needs to be, but I didn't want it any lower than the frame rails or crossmember. Will the bags be compressed too much like this? All I could find was minimum height listed as 2.8" when aired out.

Rule of thumb.... The bag should be set up as if it was sitting on your work bench without anything on it. I believe that is about 6". If you set up your ride height with the bag at 4.75" that would be too soft. Depending on how you build your control arms you may have to modify your upper mount. You could do a cup as the upper mount. That's how I did my 63.

That's kinda what I was thinking, too short and would be too soft. I'll look into raising the upper mount area 2-3".

If I remember correctly I set my ride height with the bags at 5 1/2"...dominators 2600....I think you will be happy anywhere in the 5 1/2" to 6" range

Re: Bag Height at Ride Height, Is This Too Short?

Chopped the crossmember today to raise the bag mount area. I still need to get some plate and 10" pipe to box the area in. The bags will end up around 6.75-7" tall once I box it in.

2" cut out.

7" tall now. That'll shrink a little once I plate the mounting pad but it's a major improvement!

Your lift will be limited with it set up that way. Depending on your ride height that may or may not be a concern for you.

Ride height is 4" clearance at the frame rail, and bottom bag mount will be 4" also. I can always shim them if I need more lift. D2600's extend to 12" so I think I'll be fine.

its just as easy to set your bag up in full squish, by stepping on it to deflate and then covering the hole with tape, and then mounting it fully laid out. you want your bag to fit perfectly when aired out and squished, this will give you the most lift.

Re: Bag Height at Ride Height, Is This Too Short?

Im not too worried about a ton of lift. If it only goes up another 2-3" that'll be plenty. My whole plan was to make it taller than it needed to be so I could shim the bag to change the bag pressure at a certain height. That way if I want a higher spring rate I can pump up the bags and take shims out to keep the same height. It's being set up for autocross so having the spring rate easily adjustable without changing the ride height will be a big help in tuning the suspension.
