t-5 swap help

I'm installing a 1992 s10 t-5 in my 1957 chevy 3600 with a 235. I've cut down the input shaft and the sleeve the throw-out bearing rides on. The clutch disc I'm using is from Speedway motors part #91015649. The problem I'm having is the clutch disc is stopping the transmission from sliding in all the way. The splines on the tranny don't go back all the way to the sleeve. Will the astro van clutch disc fix this problem? The stock disc had an offset, dose the astro also? Any pics or info would be a huge help.

Re: t-5 swap help

Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I have an astrovan t5 in my truck, and as far as outside dimensions go, it's pretty consistent. My cousin does a lot of repair work on transmissions and we were looking at an s10 and my astro trans side by side. Only major difference was the offset shifting linkage.
Hope that helps.

Re: t-5 swap help

Everything will bolt up and work fine, but the clutch disc won"t let it slide in that extra 1/2 inch. The stock 10 spline disc had an offset but the 14 spline is offset on the opposite side. I'll try to get some pics posted

Here are a few pics of the stock 10 spline disc and the new 14 spline disc with the wrong offset.

Re: t-5 swap help

You need to grind the splines on the trans. shaft back a little. Remove the coller & slide the disc on the shaft & mark where it stops. Then extend the splines back so the disc will slide about 3/8 to 1/2 in further. A die grinder works good for this.

Re: t-5 swap help

I just found a place that will make me an offset clutch disc. I'll let everyone know how it works out.
