Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
http://s704.photobucket.com/user/akn...w/COOP%20Truck Click on the link above to see a slideshow Got it delivered today. I am amazed that the tires still hold air. I dug about 3 inches of dirt out of the floor and seat bottom and think I found the dead rat. I find it interesting that its a 1951 chevy that was built in KC, KS and only traveled less than 200 miles as a COOP truck Se of KC and is now less than 75 miles from the factory. Cant tell from the speedo yet as to how many miles are actually on it. The interior and engine bay are full of sticks from a flood. Funny as there was a big flood in KS in 1951. Front bumper grill guard says FORD too. Plans are for Mustang II IFS, Ford 8.8 rear and S10 rear frame swap with 2 inch lowering blocks. Cross flow radiator. 60L and 80e trans. Maybe a turbo if I can fit it in there. Here is a slide show of my buddies truck that he did the backhalf S10 frame mod. Easily clears a 10 inch wide rim (not tire). Cant find a pic of the S10 frame truck but will post a pic once I find it. http://s704.photobucket.com/user/akn...%20Frame%20Mod Last edited by aknovaman; 06-01-2014 at 11:47 PM. |

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Looks like a good starting point. Its hard to tell from the 1st picture but maybe a cab corner on the pass side? Either way it looks pretty solid.

Here is a pic of my buddies truck with the S10 rear frame clip.
It has the stance I am looking for: Hard to tell but the truck has really wide rear tires. And a slideshow of his truck. http://s704.photobucket.com/user/akn...%20Frame%20Mod |

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Made a bit of progress this weekend. Picked up a $200 1991 longbox S10. $175 Ford Explorer 3.73 posi disc brake rear end. UPS delivered my $208 ebay mustang II crossmember Thursday.
Washed all the drift wood from the engine bay and 4 inches of dirt from the floor boards. That sure made it look a bunch better. Next step is to remove the bed sides and front to save the floor, frame and springs. Then it's off to the scrapper to reclaim some $$ with the front of the old s10. Pulled the steering column. Then began chopping it in half. Sawz-All is my best friend ! Last edited by aknovaman; 06-22-2014 at 09:57 PM. |

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
What springs are you using on your mustang II front end?
V6 v8 or 4 cylinder? I prefer a firm ride and no mushy cruiser. Do you cut them or leave them at stock height? Does the stock mustang sway bar fit the aftermarket crossmember and rack? |

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Anyone?
I am being told to use 500pound springs full length, not cut. |

A familiar Avatar name! Can't answer your spring question----I have bags on my unfinished 54. I see we have more than one interest that is about the same. Here is a mockup of my engine.

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Owner has $100k in it. It's on the car show circuit now. I am not much for the air ride systems but the 46 panel sure is nice at highway speeds.

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Why can't you? Hydroboost is smaller in diameter than a small booster and about the same length, right? Are you concerned with hose length to the unit or physical space?

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Back from the almost dead. Sidelined with family and other work. Picked up another truck. This one is a one owner '49 truck fron my buddies yard as pictured above. Took it through the car was and spent another $8 in quarters cleaning it up
Pulled engine and trans. Waited till it was well in the high 90's with high humidity and direct sun all day long to tackle the job. Explorer 8.8 rear end, TCi bolt in rear spring kit and Heidts hub to hub Mustang II front end is next. Soon as I get my stupid photobucket account working I will post a couple pics to get things back on track.

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Can someone tell me how to post pics instead of the links here? I am copying the shared links from photobucket but can not see the embedded pic, only the link. Grrrrrrrr.

Re: Project Dead Rat - COOP Pickup
Good work, looks like a solid truck. Is the last shot your camo look? I think you were doing a pretty good job at blending in with the truck and driveway.
I think I'm going to try to find a 67 to 72 at some point. I've never been a fan of Photobucket, sometimes it does some strange stuff. I'm lucky I use my own domain to host pictures. I think you're including the pictures as links instead of images. Enter the url and surround it with (img) url (/img) only substitute the soft brackets for hard ones. |
