Paintable Instrument Panels?

I'm inching closer to painting my blazer and I am not a fan of the plastic instrument panel
that the factory installed....Since I'm doing a little of my own modding I was wondering what options I have for an instrument panel I can put on and paint the body color... Right now all I see is carriage works...which looks like might be fine..but they show two options at Summit..yet I can't figure out the difference...other than price...so any suggestions?... does someone else make a metal dash panel?... any help would be greatly apprecitated.

Re: Paintable Instrument Panels?

we had a metal shop cut a piece of metal plate to bolt over the original and cut the holes out then painted it to match the dash. Theres pictures on my build thread

I've seen glove box doors used as insturment panel blanks on here. Same shape, just cut holes and a little trimming. There is also a member making milled aluminum panels though both these options are generally used with aftermarket gauges.

You can buy a stainless or aluminum dash with the holes cut out for your own custom autometer or similar type gauges. I have a brushed aluminum 6 hole dash hiding in a box somewhere. Ive seen several different designs. Search the other boards and I'm sure you'll find something.

Re: Paintable Instrument Panels?

thanks for the advice!.. I will be using aftermarket gauges..so I guess carraige works will work fine.. although I will try to do a quick search before I pull the trigger today.. Thanks again.. I'll hopefully have some pics soon..but we all know how long soon is when restoring a blazer.

Re: Paintable Instrument Panels?

that sharp!.. my only fear is that I'm painting my truck silver... so I don't want to have to that large of an area (dash panel) so close to the silver color..... smaller like badges ..etc.. will look sharp...but that's alot of square feet.

I'm really just trying to find a very blah... panel.. that will fade into the body color and pop with black background aftermarket gauges..
