Tilt Steering with Original AD Wheel
I want to run a stock '51 steering wheel and horn on a tilt column, I find no one that makes an adpater for Ididit or Flaming River columns for prior to TF trucks.. I think I can make it if I can get about 6" of a steering wheel end of a stock steering shaft, and I have the upper bearing horn contact...
Any Ideas? |

Re: Tilt Steering with Original AD Wheel
Look at my build thread starting at post 634. 48 Ad wheel on an 82, eldo tilt telescope. had to go with a flat wheel and wanted the vintage look. here is finished product. Lots of work to repair the wheel, biggest challenge was figuring out how to make the horn mech work...

Re: Tilt Steering with Original AD Wheel
Thanks Orrie, I have the wheel done, and it was cracked a lot like yours was. I have an aftermarket tilt I can use,I think I can add/tig a length of a splined shaft to the existing shaft and use a stock AD upper bearing/horn contact with a nylon washer under it, to prevent shorting, and then run the wire into the GM style column harness - it seems like it could work - just looking for that short length of upper steering shaft that will fit the 51' wheel. Hopefully will have pics on my build thread IF it works !
I can't seem to post pics here, always get 'error on page' notice... |
