can you help me decipher this?
Hello all,
I've got a question. Newbee here to this forum. Excited to be here. I've got this baby of mine that I've owned since '86. I cannot tell what some of these codes are etc. Thought I'd get some of the pros to help out. I'll be posting some pics of my dream soon. It's been in the garage and finally have room to get to it. Gonna try and get it respectable once again. Just never knew about this sticker till recently. Thank you Richard |

Re: can you help me decipher this?
I am new to this. I actually just started tonight, fooling around with your SPID. It appears that if you go to this site:
http://www.longroof.info/pdf/rpo.pdf and use the second, third, and fourth digits of the codes, it'll give you the option description. It's sort of generic, but should get you started. I found it easiest to hit Control + F and use the find function rather than going through and finding the code. EDIT: SS TIM's second reply wasn't there when I started. Always a day late and a dollar short. BTW, he's pretty much the expert in this.

Re: can you help me decipher this?
OK, thank you so much SS Tim. That helps out a lot. Seems like an average type everyday truck. Nothing special to it. (truck specs that is)
I've attached a truck pick I took a few months back. Just for giggles. Have a ways to go, just getting started. Need to see if the engine will still work before I do much else. Drove it till '96 bought it in '86. |

Re: can you help me decipher this?
It was a nice truck when new and typical of a mid-level truck. Power nothing is hard for some people to deal with but is livable.
If it were mine I'd just do a simple back to stock look. Rebuild the stock engine or use a crate 350. Swap out the PG for a 200R4 or 700R4 four-speed automatic trans. Since it was built with 3.07s gears a set of 3.73 or 4.11s would give it life it didn't have before with a two-speed. A 5-lug axle swap might be the easiest way to get both lugs and gears. Add power steering or maybe even a performance steering box. But plan it in conjunction for using full, 71 up (heavier), steering components and disc brakes. Power booster would be a good idea here too. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...68&postcount=4 The maroon poly (metallic) was a one year only color however the earlier 67-68 vermillion was similar. Black interior goes with the maroon very well as about any picture of firsowner69's CST/20 will show. As you may have guessed the front bumper there is a replacement (71-72). Stock it would have been white on your truck and no rear bumper. I'd add the correct chromed front bumper to carry the theme of the moldings and wheel covers. If you have a nice step bumper (dealer added) I'd keep it.

you will find this place a very useful resource when it comes to figuring out where your truck was built and the options on the SPID. http://outintheshop.com/index.html You can find out all sorts of stuff here, like how many of these trucks were built in 1968 with green paint, hounsdstooth seats and a 396. http://www.oldride.com/answers/index.html?t=20 |

SS Tim, You did a nice job on that. The added info in parentheses is very helpful. Nice work!
