Wider rear wheel wells.

Just starting at the back of the truck. I know I should stop now.
This truck will need some more tire to hook up the big block.
The plan is to run a ford 9 inch and stock control arms. I will be running at least 29.5x 10.5 slicks or 315/60s on about a 6 inch drop.

What are you guys doing about the wheel well restrictions?
This truck is a 1970 fleet side, wood bed.

Re: Wider rear wheel wells.

Mine are made from two sets of inner fenders cut and welded to make one set that are widened to the frame rails.

Re: Wider rear wheel wells.

Great idea. I didn't want to weld in a middle strip to the current wheel wells.

I did the same thing! Just welded two together. Took them all the way to the frame rail.

Re: Wider rear wheel wells.

I also used 4 to make two - my originals spliced together with a pair of damaged ones that the owner was going to toss out…

Re: Wider rear wheel wells.

Yup I was going to glue 4 together to make wide ones,, then decided the wood and stock frame was too heavy for my faster faster faster addiction (and lack of motor to make the 'fast' I craved)

So I took the easy, cheap and light way out. Alstons tubs and a bunch of 0.035" aluminum from the local metal shop.

Re: Wider rear wheel wells.

Going to fab tubs from sheet aluminum. Have to make them pretty big to clear my tires at ride height.. I think 4inches above the tire is safe . Tire is a 32x17.5 on a 14wide wheel . Tread width is 15 but M/T calls them 17.5. Still using a stock frame but its real close.

Last edited by moggey01; 08-12-2014 at 06:40 PM. Reason: tire size

Re: Wider rear wheel wells.

o sorry ,Mine is a stepside, the bed is raised on the frame about an inch 1/2. The steps are moved up on the bed box 1 inch. This gaines over 2 inches with a tall tire (32"). You should have more room with a fleetside I think. The wheel opening is stock ,just lowered the body line back down 1 inch. Ride heigth is 6"
