5.3 intake
I bought a 5.3 intake, and I don't know how to tell if it is DBC intake or DBW intake and also not sure what year it is. It does not have the throttle body on it so I'm at a loss, how can I tell which intake I have. I read that using a DBW throttle body would somehow run funny on a DBC intake? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 5.3 intake
looks like DBC to me. it has the brass inserts for the throttle cable bracket.
I havent had any issues. I have a DBW intake on my DBC set up. Had to move a couple things around and pound some inserts in for the cable bracket, no big really |

Re: 5.3 intake
x2
Drive by cable judging by the inserts. I don't believe I've heard anything about them running funny and the intake being the issue. I've mixed and matched all sorts of intakes and the only one that ran funny was that I put on and didn't bother tightening the intake bolts after starting them Would like some feedback on that if it can happen though

Re: 5.3 intake
Thanks for the info, I think its DBC as well. That is what I am hoping to do is to run a DBW throttle body on it. I think I read where LS1Nova said there would be some interference issues, but maybe he was stating that for someone else with a specific year ECM. I guess my next question is does anybody know if I can run a DBW throttle body on it?

Re: 5.3 intake
If you have a dbw harness already then you shouldn't have an issue. If you have an older dbc harness, then you would have to dig around in the harness and change a couple connectors. Pretty sure you will need to make sure to have a dbw ecm as well. LT1swap.com i believe has a way of identifying the ecms that can be made to work and those that can't

Re: 5.3 intake
I have my ECM, but I don't have a harness, I am planning on getting an aftermarket harness. I need to verify what year my ECM is, I was told it was an 06, but need to look it up still. You know how that goes I am sure, the guy you buy it from says its this year, but the guy he bought it from lied to him. Best measure to try and verify yourself. Thanks for the info guys.

Re: 5.3 intake
I never looked at a DBW throttle body, does it have a port for the clean-side PCV draw?
my DBC intake does not have it (looks like yours is deleted too) because it's on the TB itself. probably pretty easy to draw it somewhere else, but something to consider at least. |

Re: 5.3 intake
I will have to look. I haven't looked at it too closely. I don't guess I have looked that close at a DBC or a DBW intake before I bought this one.

Re: 5.3 intake
ALL TOO WELL!!! I trust part numbers. My friends even screw up years and parts. I argued with a guy that was selling an ly6 on CL. I asked him for a pic of the front and the casting numbers. Apparently he thought he could squeeze out a few extra $$$ if he posted his 4.8L and pass it off as a LY6. I guess he didn't realize the displacement is casted on the front of the block.... some people

Re: 5.3 intake
That's a '99-02 intake, DBW and DBC are the same. You can run an '03-up DBW throttle body on it no problem, but you will have to find a way to hook up the PCV hose to the right valve cover, since an '06 DBW throttle body won't have a provision for it because it's on the intake on those years. The problem I had was trying to use a DBC throttle body (which does have the PCV provision) on a '03-up intake which also has the PCV provision, so they hit each other. I removed the one from the TB. Since you won't have one at all, I suppose you could cap the line off the valve cover, but I would try to find another way to hook it up if it were mine. Hope this helps.

Re: 5.3 intake
I don't have much money in this thing at all so I will most likely try to find an 03 and up intake and throttle body for DBW. I have to check my ECM and see what year it is truly for before I do very much parts buying. This one was cheap so I bought it. So will my fuel rails and injectors work with an 03 and up intake?

Re: 5.3 intake
Okay I looked at my ECM and the number reads serv no 12589462. So can the ECM be used for a 5.3 and a 4.8?

OoOoOoOoOoOoO!!!!! I understand now!! Thanks for clearing that up Nova. I had no idea, perhaps I've gotten lucky or unconsiously capped one of the lines. I have an edelbrock Pro Flo now, so I can't check my setup, got a couple laying around though. Thanks for the info!! Somehting to look out for!
