Braking System
Question: Can I install a different Break booster and Master cylinder if I doing a complete truck rebuild? 1987,4X4.
I am doing a truck ground up, the original Master Cylinder is the big cast iron one. I would like to change it to the plastic one that you find in 1988 trucks. If so what do I need to make it work. Things like, Master cylinder, Power Booster, Proportioning valve. Thanks, John

Started to lay SOME BONDO and primer. Done, Ordering paint. Got paint, Stuff painted,Cab,Fenders, Hood more later. 9/7/2015 Got the clear coat on,now time to take one off. Started to put things back (What a nightmare) like the heating and AC stuff, inside wire harness, outside AC unit and booster, still more. May 2016, still working on the inside. Got duck work in,heating and AC. Radio (stock) in dash with after market in console later, Speaker are hooked up, Steering column is in. Getting ready to drop the cab onto the frame, Working on engine now since I have the room. Well here it is 2018, got the engine in and it runs, now I need to get the exhaust system in so I can adjust the lifters, to loud right now. Got the exhaust on now I am waiting for the break parts to come in. Last edited by Big Blue; 06-10-2014 at 11:53 PM. |

Re: Braking System
Hmm. My '87 came with the plastic brake reservoir.
Is yours a heavy duty (1 ton) truck? Here are the brake systems release charts for 1987, so you can see the technical details of the master cylinders available. If you match the internal bore and the external housing diameter (where it attaches the booster) you should be able to find what you need. K

Re: Braking System
Thanks Keith,
Sorry, the chart was to much for me to follow. Here's what I have. I believe the truck is a K30. I am right now down to the gutted cab (ready for the blaster). This cab is going on a Blazer frame.Since I have everything off the cab I thought maybe I can swap out the cast iron master cylinder for the plastic one when I go to put it back together. I was wondering what would I need to make the swap. I really thank you for responding. Thanks John
