Another Noob with a '72

New to this forum...belong to many others. I found out how valuable a resource a good forum can be when I did a frame off on my '68 vette roadster. I just picked up a '72 C10 Delux LWB fleetside 350/th350. It's a two owner truck with 92k miles. The gentleman who owned the truck is in his 80's and had not driven it for at least three years. She needs brake work, runs a bit rough but is a very solid truck.

I'm starting by changing all the fluids/filters and sorting out the brakes. The diaphragm was shot in the fuel pump so that goes in tomorrow. From there, I want to get it to 'solid running' status. That will involve ignition/carb work and seeing where I stand with the factory four seasons air conditioning.

When I restored the vette, some of the corvette parts houses put together a vacuum kit that had all the correct hoses, check valves, etc. along with a diagram for routing/location. This truck is not the vacuum addict the vette was, but I know vacuum affects power brake booster, transmission, A/C, timing, PCV and probably a dozen other things I don't know. Do you know where a vacuum diagram could be had? Are there any vendors who generally carry all the vacuum pieces and maybe even have a kit?

This truck is so original, I'm seriously considering going back to pure stock. I may do a few things which can easily be remedied (wheels and headers/exhaust come to mind) but I'm headed toward ending up with a sweet original ride.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Welcome to the Forum!

Please post some pictures of your new truck. There are many members here that will be happy to help with your questions. The vacuum systems on these trucks are basic simple things that will be easy to troubleshoot. Someone will be able to provide that diagram for you.

I don't know if this is still a viable source for vacuum hoses and fittings or not....

I'm up I 85 on the SC border. I picked up a few feet of several sizes vacuum line yesterday and will start replacing as I go. We have a major Autozone distribution center here with a retail store in front. I can get most anything they have very quickly.

Thanks for the welcome.

That is a fine memory for me. I used the Doc for a lot of my other build parts. You are right. He has all the vacuum stuff I needed before. I think he's where I got the complete kit for the vette along with a laminated diagram of the complete vacuum system in the whole car. I guess I thought he was vette specific. I'll have a second look.

Yeah, yeah.....I hear ya! I just hit her with the pressure washer to knock the heavy junk off and pulled her into the shop. I'll post some pics when I get back to her in a week or so. At Atlanta airport now picking up week long visitors. They don't know they are in the way of progress!

Here is a shot I took of BayBee Blu the day I trailered it home. The hood isn't rusty, it's many years of dirt accumulation. There's actually fungus growing in the white paint on the drivers side cab roof. That will all clean up nicely.

I'm excited to get started.
