99 C1500 Blend Door Actuator STEM SMH :( Toughy

Guys I pulled the blend actuator off the car and much to my surprise the actual stem the blend door fits on is broke. Instead of a U shape I gotta J shape sorta. Upon taking out the ashtray I noticed the actuator was not even connected electrically - raising my eyebrow….I found it broken…. Previous owner

Now how do I fix this? Are these removable without taking out the whole dash? I can not find one single thing on the internet.

Is there a genius way to fix it (Mcgyver) I tugged on it with needle noses and it does not seem to come out. I wasn't forceful tho.

I need some help Forum.

From the dealership they are telling me that Chevy calls that a "link" They say it's about $44.00 they didn't have a clue on how to tell me to fix it but I need to call back and talk to customer service not parts.

You may need to hit the salvage yard and have a look at one already opened up and get your parts a whole lot cheaper too.

All this info is on a 90 Chevy Z71 but you can go to GMPartsGiant.com inter your vin # and it will direct you to the parts list where you can find a diagram on you year and model (click on info) I myself was trying to get chock cables to replace the actuators (the little servo motors) But I have to configure a lever to attach to the shaft to the flapper??/ (See below) Is the shaft or whats left over (Stub) move freely ??/ The lever similar to the one below (the one shown is a throttle lever and the hole is to small )My shaft has a What they call a double "D" appearance with a slot in the middle so I'm probably going to have to fabricate one lever that is??/ Get back to me on what you ended up doing ??/ Steve @S&J Auto# 21 the left diagram is the one that controls hot and cold behind the glove box ??/

I doesn't move freely....Pretty hard to move by hand cause it's just a stub now. I bought some Q bond and I am hoping I can put the stub back together enough to work.

If its bound up it might be that some of the form seal that they put around the perimeter of the flapper to make a air tight seal got stuck in the working mechanism (Shafts, fulcrums,Ect ) I think that's What killed my actuator ( The little servo motor ) Can you take a little pair of vise grip pliers and get on the nub or were you going to wait tell after you apply the Q Bond ??/ Steve

I been waiting till the Q Bond comes in. Kinda nervous to try it without it. Don't want to mess it up further kind of thing.

I wonder how you test the servo off the car and not screw it up?

With it plugged in Without it being in the contact position with the shaft (lose but plugged in ) You can turn the AC on off and go from hot to cold and watch it perform??/ Its not a real fast motor because of the gear reduction ??/ But there shouldn't be any hesitation ( constant ) in the movement and not a lot of pick up ( Slopp ) at the ends of travel ??/ You can even hold a grip on the moving shaft while moving to determine if its weak or faulty??/
