Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
Just curious to see if anyone has bought door shells, fenders, hood, tailgate, from rockauto? Do they line up pretty good? I know there will be adjustments always when u remove parts like these I know I work at a body shop, but just curious how good they are? If anyone knows let me know, I plan on buying a hood, both door shells, one fender And a tailgate.

Never used them but, probably tiawain made like all the rest. I would think the shipping charges would kill you.

It's not too bad, although shipping is nuts, for one door she'll they charge around $220 shipping, so I'm going to order 2 doors 1 fender and tailgate and shipping will be the same at $220

It was bad enough for two plastic headlight bezels from them, shipping was 42 bucks and change, I bought them from a different site. Anything made of steel is gonna kill you for shipping.

Check locally for a supplier of crash parts for body shops.
Found a Keystone about 15mi away, no shipping, and you can inspect for damage when you pick them up. Yes the parts are made in Taiwan as most new ones are, but your 220.00 for shipping would pay for a new door shell.

I'm out in a little town, I do work at a body shop and we do order from keystone. I wonder if they would charge shipping?

Yea just order from Keystone, all the aftermarket parts are the same typically, and if your bodyshop orders parts often, then they shouldn't charge you shipping since they'll be coming to the shop on the same truck.

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
Hmm I'll ask my boss and see if he can order the parts for me, but I'm thinking the pArts are going to cost me more, since rockauto is fairly cheap I might be better off ordering off them

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
I wouldn't be too certain. I can get front inner fenders from fixmyrust for $30 each, but the shipping is $150, by truck freight due to the size. I can get them both from my local Keystone distributor for $100.
Also, what part of Nevada are you in? I would think you could find some good used rust free stuff fairly easily. The aftermarket made in taiwan stuff is made of thinner steel and doesn't fit as good as original GM parts. |

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
I live in elko nevada, no junk yards near. I know the aftermarket is ****ty steal but I can't fix rusted holes. There is no point and that's my main concern is the Alignment of the parts. As long as I can get it to line up decent it will be ok.

Just talked to my boss, he gave me his username and pass to login and check out pricing, it's a fair bit higher then rock auto prices but I'm sure the quality is better

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
Now you guys have me sweating, there are only a couple wrecking yards here, 50 miles each way, and they never have anything for what I drive.
I will need a tailgate for my 84 as well as some other parts, and it looks like I will be rolling the dice for quality and shipping to buy online.

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
I think it just a hit n miss in my opinion, most of the time stuff comes dAmaged from shipping. My main parts I'm wAnting are the door shells and right front fender. But I'm think I can cut out the section on mine and weld it together

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
You can get away with aftermarket fenders and maybe doors, but aftermarket tailgates are crap. Super flimsy. Your palms will leave dents the first time you close it (nicely even). If you stand on it it will crush like a beer can and if you sit on it it will fold like cardboard.

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
If you can cut out the rusted area and replace it you will time and money ahead to do so. What year model parts are you looking for?
If you can find parts used, you can have them shipped greyhound pretty cheap.

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
I don't understand the dilemma as far as shipping. You work at a body shop that has an account with Keystone. You just get your part numbers and tell your boss to add them to the order next time he buys from Keystone. Then their little delivery truck drives up with your parts. I don't work at a body shop myself, but in the past I've just walked in and had them order my aftermarket parts along with their usual order. A couple days later my stuff is here with no shipping.

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
Cost is the problem, their asking $300 for a fender when I can get something cheaper then that and it will work the same.

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
Trouble is it probably won't work the same. While I have not ordered body panels from Rockauto, I have ordered trim pieces from them. They had the 4 pieces around the front end for my 85 C10. Unusable. Threw all 4 pieces in the garbage. Wasn't even close. Junk. I did make the mistake of ordering replacement Hood, left fender and right door shell from a place called Tuckers Classic Parts here in Henderson so I would not have to pay shipping. All from tiwain or china junk. I am using the hood but it is a piece of ****. Has small dents just from fitting it and closing. The fender and door are still sitting in my garage. They do not fit. Your best bet is junkyard used.

Re: Has anyone bought doors/fenders off rockauto?
I still see good body parts in AZ junkyards. In fact, I see whole trucks in good body shape for cheap. If I was in NV and needed body parts I would gp to Las Vegas or PHX and buy a good truck, then drive it home and take what I needed - sell the rest - probably no cash out of pocket when you were done.
