6 lug or 5 lug?
Curious what most of you do when install disc brakes on a 6 lug truck 1/2 ton. Do you prefer to keep your 6 lug or do you prefer to change the truck over to 5 lug?

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
Switch to 5-Lug.. there are more wheel options (billet) and if you ever sell it; that's what people look for.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I'd think most go with 5 lug for more wheel options. I stuck with 6 lug because I'm not ready to rebuild my rear end and have my rear axles re drilled for 5 lug.

I chose 5 lug. More wheel options.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
i'm curious to see what everyone says but i'm switching to 5-lug just because it was cool to do so. (mainly because of all the wheel options) but
its kinda stupid because there is nothing wrong with the 6 lug, everything works fine, its cheaper (because you aren't spending money converting it over) and there are actually starting to be more 6 lug wheel options around because of all the new chevy's now running 6 lugs esp. the dub's but i've already started so i'm still going to 5 i hope i helped in some way |

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
. . . .
I switched my 70 C-10 from 6 to 5 . . . and still used original steel wheels. The guy who restored my truck happened to have a set of the five lug wheels to put on it. |

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
Stayed with 6. I wasn't interested in putting wheels on other than Rally's. Got a set of four for $100. Plus I didn't want to have to deal with the rear end.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I used ECE stuff, and kept the 6-lug pattern. Later, I changed wheels to Wheel Vintiques vette-style ralley wheels and put caps on the lugs...so, it's moot.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I prefer to not spend the money converting the rear end but there does seem to be better/more wheel options with 5 lug. This seems to be the common opinion.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I converted to discs about 12 years ago. The "cool wheels" (17"+) were more $$$ than they are now (so were the tires) so I stuck with steel 6 lug 15" wheels and bought a set of ECE 6 lug rotors. Now that the wheels and tires have come down in price (A LOT) I purchased a 3.73 5 lug out of a '72 and I just need some 5 lug rotors now...
5 lug is definitely more popular, if you need proof, simply look at the sheer volume of 5 lug wheel choices vs. 6 lug.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
i changed both 67's over too 72 5 lug setups.
I'm kinda regretting swapping out the rear for the wider 72 rear on my 67. i shoulda just got the conversion axles and kept the narrow rear just for looks. I find my self eyeballin 6 lug trucks at shows just too too see if they've done 6 lug disc..... i dont know why i doo it

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I kept the 6 lugs. First was price and second was I like the look. I have a set of rally's too and liked the open hub look with the 6 lugs. I'm running a performance online disc brake kit.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I liked it. Good product for the price. I didn't come with the dust shields or lines. I ordered that stuff from cpp. Oh and they sent me drop spindles instead of stock height and i didn't know it till I set it back on the ground and it kept going and going. I kept them on and lowered the rear so it all worked out.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I'd "like to" keep my 6-lug (because it's a truck) but can't get my hands on any 6-lug steelies for under a million bucks.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
Swapping in disk brakes in my 68, going five lug. Also have a 1972 rear end going in to match. More wheel choices, and I will be able to interchange them with my 72 truck

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
Actually, if i were to build a bagged truck, id strive for 8 lug love the look of a dropped 8 lugger. 6 lugs are cool for what they are, everyone switches to 5 lug, stay 6 if u want to stand out a bit

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I'm changing my 8 lug over to a 6. My suspension needed an overhaul and I like the 4x4 rallys on these trucks. Its all about personal preferance IMHO.

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I agree there are many more 5 lug wheel options out there. I stayed with 6 lug and some Wheel Vintiques for a more "original" look. I figure if I want a more updated style I would go with some Mobsteel 6 lug.
Sorry for the upside down pictures |

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
I stuck with 6 lug on my 70. I like the idea of keeping it as original as possible.
I guess it comes down to wanting to do things the hard way... If I ever wanted to swap out to 5 its a pair of axles and a pair or rotors. |

Re: 6 lug or 5 lug?
Changed the last 3 to 5 lug. Doing a 69 this winter , changed the 5 lug disk frame back to 6 lug with drums (?) just to keep the front wheels tucked in , and my wheel choice was 6 lug (8" steelies ) . Take all the opinions you can , tons of good ones here , but don't just change it 'cause all the cool guys do.
