Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super on Ebay

This isn't mine but I thought I'd post in case someone just wants to write a check and enjoy the truck. Seeing this is being advertised as an original untouched truck has anyone ever seen that style of font that is on the spid on another spid

nice looking truck, the thing that's got me curious is what looks like glue residue all around the spid like there use to be a bigger one there and someone put a smaller one on

SPID was added...regardless that is one beautiful truck that will bring a lot of $$$. I am sure this thread will turn into a debate over a sticker instead of how nice that truck is

Very nice truck.
I'd love to own it.
The builder just needs to do a little more research prior to claiming that this is the real deal.
RH "Super" fender emblem placement happens all the time.

Still a killer truck.

. . . .

Yes, the SPID is a reproduction . . . but almost everything else looks to be original - a beautiful truck.

Beautiful truck!

Is there anywhere online with a run down of what "Cheyenne Super Equipment" entailed?

I'm adding options to Old Blue, not to build a fake, just to have a nicer truck for myself.

Re: Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super on Ebay

nice truck... my guess is it didnt have all those options from factory, someone made a spid, added tach (by needle color) and my guess others...

if it were a super, the chrome tailgate handle is gone, the disk brake decal is also gone. wonder how much of that paint is actually original?

Can't agree more!

Like leddzepp said this is a nice truck but the fact remains the SPID is incorrect in many ways. As such the truck, as a whole comes into question. Since the seller is representing the truck as original an examination is called for.

The SPID is of course the wrong type, format and font.
There was once, clearly, a cover sheet with the rounded corners.

The interior trim code and description conflict the truck as currently equipped.
Bucket seats were not offered with cloth inserts.
Given that the A50 is out of order would indicate bucket seats were added.

The positraction option is also out of order and not even close to the correct 72 RPO code.

The final biggie is the paint, unfortunately the paint code is for a Dark Blue and White truck in the conventional two-tone (white roof only). Any factory deluxe two-tone (white between the side moldings) will have a paint code starting 4XX. For "original paint" there seems to be a big misrepresentation.

The remainder of the options could be original to the truck and it may very well be an original Cheyenne Super just not this dressy.

The rear bumper is clearly added, it would be on the SPID from the factory.

The rally wheels and lowerering of course are a modification and mentioned only to note being not original as is the replacement steering wheel.

To touch on earlier comments.
The tailgate handle cover is often missing from Supers and the "disc brakes" emblem on the tailgate is a 71 only feature.

If someone buys this truck I would encourage a close personal inspection. It would certainly make a very nice driver and one to be proud of. With some corrections it would present even better. But without a real, original, SPID and/or documentation this is not the "Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super" to most people.

Red,
Cheyenne Super (not Super Cheyenne, as the seller calls it) includes the following items over and above what came on the Cheyenne:
- woodgrain instrument bezel
- aluminum trim and woodgrain glove box door with Cheyenne Super emblem on it
- slip-on tailgate handle cover (72) / chrome tailgate handle (71)
- blue, olive, or parchment custom cloth bench (vinyl color + black houndstooth) (buckets not available with houndstooth, only vinyl)
- stainless upper side body molding
- chrome hubcaps (PO3)
- Super nameplate, left justified under the Cheyenne nameplate on the fender

Dead giveaways for fakes that are often overlooked:
- missing chrome or bright slip-on tailgate handle
- mis-aligned Super emblems
- woodgrain on the glovebox (applied), but without the aluminum insert under it
- black vice woodgrain instrument bezel
- no such thing as a woodgrain ashtray!

And others - that let you know the truck that it started with was not even Cheyenne trim level:
- missing woodgrain door panels
- missing headliner
- missing carpet
- black (vice woodgrain) lower body moldings
- missing brake and gas pedal bright trim
- missing cargo light

What you're doing is GREAT! I added some nice-to-haves to my truck also: factory AM/FM, tach, vac, just to start. More to follow. However, I'm not selling it as a "100% matching numbers" truck (actually not selling it at all ), I'm just enjoying it just like you and many other folks on here. This IS clearly a beautiful truck that anyone would love to have, no argument there. No point arguing price, it's worth that amount if someone is willing to pay it. HOWEVER, I have a huge issue with someone stating 100% matching numbers on stuff when it's been faked. I believe this one has been, and Tim is spot on that it's important to confirm the reliability of the seller's claims on this truck - or any truck that brings this kind of money. For all we know, the seller will have a build sheet that confirms all his claims. If that were the case, this baby would only need some vinyl bucket covers, to lose a few things, and a correct color/two-tone style paint job - and a redo SPID from Chipflyer to be HUGE. She's a beaut, but I get real Sherlock Holmes-like when someone asks that much and claims 100% matching numbers. Here's a brochure pic to explain the trim levels better than I can (1st 2 are for 72, 2nd 2 are for 71):

Re: Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super on Ebay

I think this is a nice truck and would like to have it regardless of what things look like have been added. I would add them too. Things like tilt, tach, and buckets. I pretty much pieced my truck together with options I like. But I would never say that its original just because the options are like what GM offered. That gets into a whole honesty thing that I would have a problem with. I would try to see if it was an original swb and if it was cut down, was it done right.

But regardless. Nice looking truck.

Re: Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super on Ebay

Yeap, just like this one on ebay that's already at $20K. Beautiful truck but why do people feel they have to make everything a Cheyenne Super? This truck is NOT a Cheyenne Super , I don't care if they were to show me multiple build sheets, they would be fake just like the ad. Let your work stand on its own merit, and obviously the builders here are very talented, minus being able to put emblems were they belong:-)

Re: Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super on Ebay

I sent him a message about the SPID. He said it has not been replaced "to his knowledge" and that "the truck has been appraised and all is documented". I asked him for a copy of
the documentation. I will post what he responds with. I agree that it is a very nice truck,
lots of desirable options, but the miscues on the SPID contradict the originality. Only problem I have with it is that it appears he is being dishonest. However, if it was presented to him that way when he got it, he may not have the knowledge about these trucks like some on here and he may believe that it is all original.

Re: Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super on Ebay

A couple years ago I met a guy at Des Moines Goodguys that was SO PROUD of his recently purchased '68 swb.
He said it all original.
I asked if I could look at the SPID.
The SPID said 127" wheel base and the glovebox door looked original to the rest of the truck.
He was shocked when I told him it looked like it use to be a lwb truck,... since the SPID's VIN number matched his VIN plate.

Maybe this owner is the same way.
Doesn't know any better and is just repeating what his was told.

Re: Ultimate SWB Cheyenne Super on Ebay

Jocko,

Thanks!

The only things the first owner didn't check when they ordered Old Blue were the cloth seat, woodgrain parts on the dash and the chrome tailgate handle.

I always thought the tilt column was included with the "Super" package!
