new with a 72

hey, new to the site, probably spend every lunch break drooling over some of the trucks on here... i rescently purchased my first project vehicle, a 72 k5 4x4, and i love it. was just going to get it looking somewhat presentable and use it mainly for camping and hunting but ive decided that just wont cut it. after 42 years the truck deserves to be "done up" so long story short... im wondering if anyone in the south puget sound area has an auto rotiserie i can rent from them? im not really in the market for spending 1200$ on something that doesnt get used very often.

Welcome! I don't have a rotisserie, but have you went through it mechanically yet? I like to go through all the drivetrain and get everything how it needs to be before going to the body. Why not post some pics?

Well mechanically it is pretty sound. Considering I'm only into it 1200$ I probably should do some maint. On a few things but it runs and drives! Fires right up. I haven't had time to upload and pics of it yet but I will soon!

Just saying HI. I have been into Chevy trucks for some time (too many projects not enough time or money 46 GMC, 71 C20 rust bucket and newly a
72 C20) Got rid of the 46 and gave the 71 to my oldest son since he needed transportation.

Bought the 72 C20 long bed 2wd out of CA and is rust free but it was damaged in transit (long story) so I had it painted and installed a new grill, TH400w/Gear Vendors OD and am setting up a sbc 383 with all the goodies. Hope is to make an honest 400 hp and use it as my daily driver with occasional pulls of my RV. Been taking care of some of the uds n suds to get it looking fairly decent when I don't have money to do much else.

I hope I can help with questions and answers but I'm pretty much a newbie even tho I am an old fart. When I get pics I will post them when I figure out how.

yea runs pretty good. has the 350 out of a 68 camaro apparently. once its warmed up it drives great. bodys straight other than a spot behind the drivers door where it looks like one of the POs used boat fiberglass to repair some damage. has its downsides but all in all a good foundation for a resto imho.

thanks! i actually paid 2 for it but sold the top and the front seats almost immidiately. which brought it down to 1200. ive got big plans for it! is there ever any meet ups or cruises around here?

Join the northwest c10s Facebook group. It is kind of an informal club with a lot of guys and gals from this forum. They do get togethers and plan meetings at some of the events. XXX Root Beer in Issaquah has a truck show coming up in July which usually has god turnout if the weather holds.

Holy crap yup that's the one I was thinking of you stole it!!! An end up only getting it for $1200 if you sold the too an stuff as you said!!! What are your plans anyways? I know getting rust gone so.

I just plan on getting a descent interior and paint job, 5-10 footer, lift and some 35s nothing too crazy. Maybe a 383 some day

Yea I'm going to put a soft top on, and I decided to sell the seats because I'd rather let someone who's going to do a factory restoration have them. Going to try and get a nice set of modern buckets and call it good

It depends on what you want to do with the rig once complete and your budget.... just stay away from lift blocks. I would do a rear shackle flip from DIX4X.com

Well the kit I was looking at was an all spring lift. The most the rig is going to see is a few logging roads when hunting. I just want it to be a comfortable ride. My springs are toast any how.

I just installed that lift on mine a few months ago. I got the 4" EZ ride with rear leaf springs. Without a doubt the stock ride is much softer but that's likely because the original springs were worn out. The ride now is fairly stiff and has much more bounce to it.

If you decide to go with this lift you should know a few things:

1) Any worn out parts in the steering such as tie rod ends, ball joints, etc will be exaggerated with a lift. You should fix anything showing wear.
2) The kit includes a bracket to drop/relocate the stock brake lines. Based on my hard brake line routing up front this would not work. I had new longer brake lines made at a local 4x4 shop.
3) Alignment afterward is a must.
4) I had some pretty severe vibration which turned out to be too sharp of an angle in the rear driveline. Shims needed to be added to the rear axle (not in the kit). This allowed me to keep the stock drivelines.
