Sweet stepside, yes. Spirit of 76, no.
This is the closest I have to anything that could be called a Sprit of 76. It is from the GMC Impact '76 brochure and it is a truck that has graphics and a spoiler that were installed by Motortown Corporation and available at GMC dealers. The truck in the ebay auction I believe is a precursor to the Chevy Sport trucks that came out in 1977. It has the same paint as a truck in a 1976 ad. I will find it and scan it in tomorrow.

That DEFINITELY isn't a Spirit of '76. That is a Chevy Sport.
The "Impact '76" special edition was from GMC, not Chevy as Joe pointed out. I have a copy of the 1976 GMC "Impact 76" Special Edition brochure that KIILew sent me at home. Look familiar?: http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/chevy...hevysport1.jpg

It is clean. The color looks rather "tangy", but still cool. So the question is, did Chevrolet they actually make a "Spirit of 76" edition, like they made on the El Camino?

Spirit Of 76
From what I know about Spirit trucks, that isnt one! A sharp truck though! I have a 76 GMC Royal Sierra with the Spirit of 76 trim. The bench seat is red, white and blue and there are emblems on the trim panels that look like this
the whole trim panel I will get shots of the rest of the truck later for your viewing pleasure. Its a work in progress so its not all there yet |

First off, I'd like to take at least a little credit for getting Brian to post. He would definately be our resident expert on the Spirit trucks.
Which one isn't the Spirit truck? The Ebay one, the one I posted or both? What did the exterior graphics look like on your truck? Last I remember you had the cab painted is that right?

Brian: I look forward to seeing more pictures of your "Spirit of '76" GMC.
As I said in an earlier thread some time ago, the father of a childhood friend of mine bought one of these new. It was a 1976 GMC C1500 Royal Sierra Spirit of 76. It had exactly the same color scheme you describe, and of course had the same door panels/emblems you photographed. I was just a little kid at the time, but I knew he had something special! Now that I have returned to my home town, sometimes I think I still see that truck driving around, although it is somewhat dilapidated now! Nevertheless, I remember its better days well! Ken |

Ok heres a few shots of both my unique GMC's. The spirit truck is the blue and white one. The brown bed is temporary while a correct bed is being redone. The truck is still functional while I fix it up.
Tada! The bench seat is original and will be redone someday. There were no outter stickers or emblems on the Spirit trucks. I have only seen one other in person, a 4x4 in mint condition. The other truck is a Heavy Hauler of the same year. Its a 3/4 ton 2wd grunt truck, plans for this one are uncertain. I plan on trying to keep it as original as possible, having the decals duplicated may be a prob though. Maybe I will just have the hood decal redone and installed. Any more questions or comments, let'em fly! Thanks to Joe for the email, I hadnt forgotten about this site. |

This is an ad I have of a Chevy Sport that is what yours has been restored to look like: http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/chevy...hevysport1.jpg If you could give me some more info. about the truck, please do as I am always curious about different 73-87 trucks.
