disc brakes w/ stock wheels?
How come most disc brake "conversion kits" say they will not work with stock wheels?
Although I don't have stock 15x6, I do have these stock 15x8. Will they work with a 12' disc? And will these brake kits widen the track width? ![]()

Re: disc brakes w/ stock wheels?
from what I've read... the disc brake caliper rubs the inside of the stock 15X6 wheel.
I believe there are some threads about using the 15X8 wheels in the 67-72 area with disc brakes, but I can't swear to it. Captainfab would know... -W |

I believe you are right Woogeroo. I was looking into it and went with 17" wheels so I did not have to worry about it.

Re: disc brakes w/ stock wheels?
those wheels appear to be the factory 4wd rally wheels. Those should clear disc brakes if they are brakes that use the 73-87 style rotor and caliper.

Re: disc brakes w/ stock wheels?
You need to use any '71-87 6-lug 4x4 wheels to clear the disc brake caliper.
Of course,... the 5-lug stuff will clear because they are 71-87 also.

Re: disc brakes w/ stock wheels?
they are referring to the wheels that came stock on these trucks, which of course had drum brakes. Those wheels will absolutely not clear the calipers on the discs. I recently proved this when trying to load my truck on my trailer. truck has 15x8 rallys, too wide for my trailer fenders. grabbed my old 15x6 stock wheels, tried to put them on the truck but they would not clear the calipers. found some 16"x narrow, stock wheels and tires, they fit over the rotor calipers and allowed me to load the truck between the fenders. . As others have said, any stock wheel from a disc brake era truck should fit, your rallyes should.

Re: disc brakes w/ stock wheels?
When they say 'will not work with stock wheels' they are referring to the 15" wheels that were original to the truck. As I said in my PM to you, those 6 hole Rally wheels will work as long as you don't have rotors bigger than stock.

Re: disc brakes w/ stock wheels?
agree with captainfab. I have those wheels with a disc brake kit from ECE. 2 1/2 drop spindles and 2" drop springs. it all work great.
