Track arm bushings
Any tips on inserting new track arm bushings? I've got the old bushings out and purchased OEM style rubber replacements from Classic Parts. I was able to insert the trailing arm bushings with an appropriately sized socket and a rubber mallet, but that's not working for the track arm. Will I have to get someone to press them in for me?

Press makes it easy but a big vise or C clamp and the right size sockets and flat plate would likely work. Just a lot more effort. See if you can find a local shop to press them in.

Big bolt, big nut, several real thick washers, grease everything good, couple big wrenches, twist the nuts on the bolts, washers will pull and squish em in.
Can also heat the eye of the track arm and drop the bushing in the freezer before doing the twist and squish. |

Good luck....bushings bout an hour or two in the freezer and warm the track arm eye to ouch temp if you like...but with temps here on the east coast lately, if you put it in the sun for an hour at 2 pm it'll prolly get clear to 200F without even lighting the propane torch!
If ya don't have washers, just drill a hole in a chunk of 1/4 inch or so thick cold rolled steel and use them as washers instead for the twist and squish. Luck....(chill some beer first, might need it for celebration or consolation, depending on how it goes) |

Success! Twist and squish came through. But the beer was much needed at the end. Twasn't easy. The first bolt sheered off, and I had to find a bigger one. Got both bushings in though. Thx!

What a PITA the stock rubber ones are. I bought the Polyurethane ones. And with the grease supplied everything slipped in by hand.
