Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
this is probably not it, but I had a similar problem.... the lights I purchased came wit 6v bulbs in them. worked for a little while, then they blew.
I would check the switch that is attached to the brake pedal. It might not be making contact when you push in the peddle. |

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
Check to make sure you have power to the switch and then if you do power out of the switch with someone pushing the pedal. Do that with a test light or volt meter.

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
your blinkers are also your brake lights
your harness should have 2 or 3 hot wires to the switch, depending on the switch hot from: blinker, brake lite switch and optional hazard blinker if your blinkers work possible the brake switch has failed or come unplugged 10 min with a multimeter starting right before the brake light switch will tell you where the 12 volt stops

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
Don't know if it affects the brake part, but the LED blinkers need a resistor in the line to get the flasher to work.

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
Led bulbs have no effect as the switch is mechanical. In this case he has a Ford switch that is plugged into the brake line very much the same way mine is on my 48.
From experience, those switches and their connectors don't seem to like being down under the truck while they seem to work great up on the master cylinder of the Fords they were designed for. On his though I think it is either a connector not making a good connection or a bad switch. Or he is doing like my blond headed coworker did (you can ask my other coworkers) and pushing the break pedal and then running around to the back to check the brake lights. Without a stick to hold the pedal down. She hasn't lived that down yet.

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
Old school emergency brake... goes along with the wood shim under the gas pedal and brick on top for cruise control

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
You get it to work?"
One thing I didn't even think of is that there was a possibility that you had connected the brake lights to a connection that ran though the ign switch and you were checking the brake lights when you had the key in the off position. You always want the brake lights to work without the ign being on but I have seen a few that guys hooked up to the accessory side of the switch on street rods.

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
I was going to chime in and tell you to check the column wiring. The brake light power goes back from the swithh to the column and basically 'jumps' both turn signals at the same time, and that is how it is done when the brake and turn lights are the same.
Glad you got it fixed though.

Re: Brake Lights Dont Work
Good enough, hopefully that was the whole problem and that is done with.
It comes down to basic electrical trouble shooting: Got power here, but none here , Why?
