Material Check - Heater Box Cover - AL or CRS

Aluminum or cold rolled steel....

I'm remotely located at the moment so I cant check myself...

Curious about picking up polishing supplies if its aluminum sheet.

I'm talking about this cover (try at least, on my smartphone now)

It looks rusted orange (CRS) vs. rusted white (AL) but I thought I remember alot/all of the heater core box being aluminum.

Back when I had a deluxe heater on my 1960 the entire housing was steel.

I was curious about mine after you asked the question. The body that the heater core sets in and the motor housing were both metal, magnet sticks to it... the cover is not metal, magnet does not stick to it. Design on mine is slightly different, I have a 1962.

Let us know what you do with it!

The top cover is steel. The part below it that it is screwed to is either aluminum or potmetal.......never really checked into that.

thanks guys!....

I might try to take a crack at taking my OEM steel one) and trying to make one out of polished 304 stainless in CAD and get it laser cutt and bent up.

Who doesn't like shiny things right!
