Power Steering - Buying parts vs CPP Kit

So, I am going to converting my truck to PS soon. I have seen the post in the FAQ about sourcing all of the parts etc, and it is supposed to be cheaper, but in pricing it out locally, I have gotten a total that is the same as the CPP kit which comes with everything...

I want to buy everything and install it in a weekend, without having to run around looking for different parts etc, so the CPP kit looks like it has its benefits to outweigh the additional costs.

Here are my questions keep in mind, I do not want junkyard parts:
1.) Have I gone wrong in pricing out all of the components, or does it actually add up to 500+ with buying everything?

2.) I searched for reviews, but couldn't find much, but how is the CPP kit? Ease of install, durability etc?

3.) I did see the bump steer issue, but even if i sourced all stock parts, wouldn't that setup have the same issue as the CPP kit that puts it all in one priced package?

4.) Are there other companies that sell a conversion kit?

In dealing with CPP it is advisable to NOT deal with Javier... Deal ONLY with:

He is a straight person to deal with... It seems everyone else there are idiots... This is just my experience in dealing with CPP... Others may have a different opinion...

Hey Luckyss - did you take the plunge and buy the kit? I'm about to do the exact same thing with my 67 GMC.

I started doing the same thing: if I can find the parts from pick n pull, a steering box and pitman arm is $65, bracket is $15. Then buy a new redhead quick ratio box for $350 and send them the pick n pull box as a core (or $100 core charge), then $70 for pump and reservoir at Napa. This adds up to $500 and alot of running around, plus you have to hope the pitman arm is correct. With the CPP kit, you still have to buy the pulleys for the crank and the pump. With either one, I think I need captainfab's spacer kit to mount the steering box on my 67.


The CPP kit I saw is priced at $699.00, did you find a better price? At $699.00, that's about $200 more then my pricing above.

What did you come up with?

Sometimes the CPP is priced a little lower, but I do like having all new parts not pick and pull. No running around, all parts on the same day...
I have a March serpentine system so is have to get my own pulleys either way.

I didn't get to take the plunge yet, home stuff has put another truck project on hold.
