Brake upgrade options
Hi guys,
I have a 71 K5 with the stock single piston caliper disc brakes. Is there a late model Chevy brake system which will bolt up, possibly a 4 piston caliper, or is the best option an aftermarket Wilwood or Baier system? I am just finishing up a rotisserie resto/mod on it, just need to paint the new hood (Thanks Wes at Classic Heartbeat) and then work on the details i.e., wheels, tires, etc. Thanks for looking, Mike |

Not sure if the Wilwood D52 calipers work on the 4wd. I know they work on the 2wd trucks. Otherwise, I dont think anyone makes a kit for the D44 front. You can add rear disc brakes too but the emergency brake may be an issue. I dont like the El Dorado caliper that most kits use.

For upgraded brakes the D52 do help, I put them on a grand wagoneer and you can tell a difference, but what I feel helps more is a dual diaphragm brake booster (25% more force) and better master cylinder. Hydrobost is a option but I have not been a fan of the one in my f350 but a lot of people love them. On my blazer I will be using a dual diaphragm brake booster, rear disks (no e-brake) and the d52 up front.

Sorry re did the math the dual diaphragm is just a bit more braking pressure.
