Old truck I have been eyeing

I have been looking at an old truck for a while can't decide whether or not to buy. I'm pretty sure it's a 76 (owner doesn't know). I know it has been sitting for at least 15 years under a pole barn. Shortbed 2wd 350/350 showing 118000. It's a tan color all original. It's not in perfect shape has a few dings and some surface rust. Typical interior cracks. Guy claims he started it a year ago. He is asking 1000 I think it could be had for a lot less. I'm not sure what I would do with it other than get it running and tinker with it. Do you think it would be worth the trouble after sitting all this time? I haven't made up my mind help me out? As far as fixing things I can do it all myself. The reason I haven't decided is I keep thinking of all the troubles it's going to have from sitting all this time(oil leaks dry rotted tires etc)
Going to try to get some pics to post tomorrow if I get home in time.
Has factory AC also. All parts there.

If its solid enough and you can get a good deal, I would be on it like white on rice, Specially if the motor ain't locked up!

Pictures would help a lot as far as judging price goes. But $1,000 for a short bed is pretty cheap unless it's really rusty.

I can't be giving out all my secrets lol.
It only has a little surface rust. Looks like it would clean up good.

Re: Old truck I have been eyeing

Yeah I'd be all over that. Gasket sets for 350/350 combos are cheap. I'd pay special attention to the rear main seal area if you don't want to pull the engine/trans though since the bare metal areas those seals swipe against can get surface rust and kill the seals very fast after sitting all those years. Probably plan on valve covers and oil pan gaskets for sure... hoses, probably a carb rebuild... still, sounds mostly like cheap stuff to do if all of the original parts are there.

Re: Old truck I have been eyeing

I tell you what in Wyoming those old chevy's are getting up there in price! It's not uncommon to see a 2 wheel drive go for $1500 to $2000 and the 4x4's are averaging $2500 to $4000. I would jump on it as long as its what you want.
