Have you checked to make sure the shaft on the distributor is turning? Unhook the power to the distributor cap, remove the cap and have someone crank the engine while you watch to make sure the rotor is turning.

Did you check if you have power to the coil?

Did you check for fire at the coil wire going into the top of the cap?

Is this mechanical or electric fuel pump? And are you certain you have fuel?

Re: 1986 chevy Silverado short bed no spark please help

You say you checked for power at the coil, I'm guessing with the ignition in the "ON" position, right? What about in the cranking position? Does it still have power then? I had an ignition switch fail and everything had power in ON, but the distributor had no power in the cranking position. Fooled me for days.

Check the connector on the red incoming power wire at the coil cap connector. The actual wire-to-spade connection. They work harden and break inside and will give you fits trying to fix the motor. It will look just fine. Jam your multimeter's probe in the open end and crank the connector around real good and watch what happens. I had it happen on an '86 El Camino I had, damn near got me killed twice. Car would just stone die for no reason, then take off again like nothing happened. Cut off the connector, crimped a female spade end on, jammed it on to the terminal, Varooom! That simple. I had the same problem with the taillights on that car, too.

If you have a tach, check to make sure that the + is not grounded by something. That cost me a hot date back in 70's.. lol
