Engine compartment
Ok so I just bought some por15 for my engine compartment so basically protect everything and it deals with a lot of my painting. My question is can this stuff be applied over scuffed paint? Will it last under there due to no sunlight? Or will it bed a top coat? Has anyone done this before?

Re: Engine compartment
Here you go:
CAN I APPLY POR-15 OVER OTHER PAINTS? Yes, but you will lose the important benefits of POR-15. You must remember that ordinary paints are weakened by exposure to moisture. POR-15 can't stop rust if it isn't in direct contact with the base metal. MUST I PAINT OVER POR-15 TO MAKE IT LAST? No, but POR-15 has an ultra-violet sensitivity and must be topcoated if continually exposed to sunlight. Once topcoated, POR-15 will remain effective for many years. WILL THE SUN DESTROY MY POR-15 COATING IF I DON'T TOPCOAT IT? If the surface is exposed to the sun for an extended amount of time, the UV rays will eventually break down the POR-15 and cause it to fail. That?s why we recommend you topcoat it. Take a look at these FAQ's |

Re: Engine compartment
I looked through those but personal experience is what I was after. But it any case it seams to me that it's strip as best as you can then apply. Does this stuff go on as smooth with a brush, does it level out?

Re: Engine compartment
Yes, it does level out very well and hides any brush marks. If you have time, experiment a little with it...paint a scrap piece of metal to make sure you get your desired results.

Re: Engine compartment
Perfect I will try that, I even have some rust scrap with paint. Just to see how durable it is with that approach.
