It's a decent looker but I think he is overly concerned about the one owner aspect.

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
I cant see asking $20k for a truck with dead paint and rusty wheels. Notice the vertical discoloration lines from the lower mirror arms. The truck has sat out A LOT. A good cleaning and detail would do it wonders! Looks like a $7-$8k truck to me, after detailing, cleaning, replacing some major issues mentioned below.

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
51k miles and the seat has been recovered? Steering wheel and dash pad are toast as well. Hmmm... If mileage is original, the truck wasnt garaged and/ or very well cared for. Back in the day most trucks didnt get the same level of care as a car.

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
On trucks that sat out i always closely inspect the visor area above the windshield for rust through. This is caused by the seam sealer cracking and allowing water in between the two layers of metal.

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
I can't believe the prices people are asking nowadays. They are trying to cash in on a hot market for these trucks.
The good news is, they can ask whatever they want, but you'll see the same overpriced trucks on CL day after day, week after week. Until the ad is finally pulled with the truck unsold, because the owner won't entertain the ridiculous "lowball" offers.

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
I missed that fact Tim (2-tone blue)! It's a very nice truck, and I love somewhat rare two-tone combos (especially 2-tone blue). It's not the original interior as claimed. Won't comment on price he's asking - other than to say I wouldn't pay that much for it. But might be worth that to someone. I do not think it's a typo - because if it is $2000, then it's a STEAL at that price. If someone finds out it's $2000 and DOESN'T buy it - please post on here, it won't last long because that'd be a great deal. I'd love to have it. Then again, it's not a custom camper...

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
I always get a chuckle out of original mileage claims for these trucks unless it's actually the original owner selling and the mileage is documented. 51,000 may be the actual miles. The odometer may not have been tampered with, but we'll never know if the actual is really 151,000, 251,000, etc. Let's face it, any actual miles under 150,000 or so would be extremely rare for a 45 year old truck. Almost every eBay and Craigslist listing claims actual miles under 100,000. But, that's the limit on these old odometers.
As stated in many other threads, it's all about the condition baby! |

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
I have to tell you a little story. I have posted this before but this is a good thread to add it to again.... A few years ago I bought a 1967 Chevy C-20. It was in pretty nice shape and the guy claimed it had 47,000 original miles on it. I told him I didn't think so because of some observations I had made on the overall condition of the truck. The truck was priced right for the condition it was in so I bought it anyway. All of the paperwork was in the glove box and and I was looking through it a few days later. In the back of the owners manual the original owner and kept a log of the work he had done to it. The truck had turned over 100,000 miles in 1983. I took the owners manual over to the guy I bought the truck from and he couldn't believe it. I see so many trucks (even some on here) that the owner claims are low mileage when you can tell just from the pictures posted there is no way the original mileage can be that low.
Moral of this story is, it really doesn't make any difference what the odometer says, you better know what you are looking at when you buy a supposedly low mileage 45 year old truck. LockDoc

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
People put drop spindels and air bags on a rusted pos. Wash it with clr. Put some twenty inch wheels on it and think its worth twenty grand. At LEAST that truck can work for a living.

Re: 1971 cl c20 $20 grand???
You know i bought my 1972 C-20 for $5500.00 about twelve years ago. It was about the same shape as this one. It is a big block/ac/power stearing and brakes/cruse control super. I worried i paid to much back then. I dont think they have gone up that much in price.
