1960 C-40 Apache Cab and Chassis
I recently bought a 1960 C-40 Apache and was going to swap out the rearend to a 3/4 ton and change the front suspension to a 3/4 ton. My question is, are these trucks kind of rare? I read somewhere on this forum that they were only made in 1960-1961. Is this true? If that is the case, I don't want to chop it up so to speak. Anyone out there looking to restore one of these old classics?

Re: 1960 C-40 Apache Cab and Chassis
I didn't know they were only built in 60 & 61,but I know they are rare. They are unique being built using light truck sheet metal. I know where one is I keep thinking bout buying. It's also a '60 and it's the long wheelbase with a steel flatbed dump bed. I'd like to shorten it and put a nicer flatbed on

Re: 1960 C-40 Apache Cab and Chassis
special K, It has a 133" wheelbase and I also thought about shortening it about a foot and changing the suspension to a 3/4 ton with a nice flatbed with a couple of aluminum gas tanks behind the cab and under the bed. I saw one like that before and it looked great. I have my eye on a 1962 1/2 Custom cab that I'd like to snag, so that's why I'm selling it kind of cheap. If it doesn't sell, I'll keep it and go with plan A. Thanks for the info. Talk to you later. Runningiron.

Re: 1960 C-40 Apache Cab and Chassis
They were made from '60 to '62. They are rare and are very interesting trucks.
They would carry a load too. Believe the GVW on them is 14,000. I would recommend keeping the truck itself original. But would be a great truck to put a Rollback bed on. Bill

Re: 1960 C-40 Apache Cab and Chassis
C10-C90 Bill, Yes it does have a GVW of 14,000. The previous owner installed a small block Chevy and bolted it up to the stock 4 speed trans, and was a daily driver up until 2013. The front suspension is a torsion bar set up. It looks like it has the stock rear axle which is probably about a 6.17. That is one of the reasons I'm thinking about selling it. I'd like to drive it daily and that low of a rearend is limited to slow speeds. I'd rather sell it to somebody that would enjoy restoring it and keep it original. These old trucks are getting scarce. Hoping I can find a new home for someone that would bring it back to it's former glory. Runningiron.
