Motor mount direction
I got some energy suspension clamshell inserts. The clamshells have been off for awhile and I didnt think there where any alignments that matter...
I do remember that when I removed the mounts and clamshells there was only a bottom bolt on one side and it was smaller than the others. Probably because a bigger one wouldnt fit through the misaligned hole. This is a SB350. The truck came with a 402 so I wonder after reading about differences between the mounts on BB vs SB maybe thats related. Furthermore theres no way to get the inserts to match the directions unless you flip the clam shell around in which case none of the holes line up. http://oi49.tinypic.com/14azj8h.jpg This guy seemed to have a similar issue. http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...t-inserts.html Are these not stock? Any info on them? I drilled the hole out and ran a bolt through but it makes me wonder which way is up etc. |

Here's a bump for you. Are those the big block framesstands? I thought the BBCaand sbc had different stands.

Re: Motor mount direction
truck was originally a BB. Had a SB when I bought it and the clamshells from what I remember seeing through the grease were attached with a small bolt on the bottom that didn't really fit on one side and no bolt on one of the bottoms.

Re: Motor mount direction
Wasn't the 72's the first C-10 year with clamshell style motor mounts?

Re: Motor mount direction
no idea. this is a 72 though
here where they had just a small bolt on one side and no bolt on the other. I drilled out the holes and put a big bolt in it. but the thing is it makes the tabs the wrong way. at least according to this pic. The only way to get the tabs to match that pic would be to spin the clam shells 180deg. But then none of the bolt holes would line up. You can see the clam shell holes are slightly wider on one side. |

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...37&postcount=5 And the clam shells are the 72+ style. what im not sure of is if the clam shells were used on BB and SB in 72? |

The clam shells in the picture are NOT 1972. They are 73+

Re: Motor mount direction
The clam shells are a major PIA. I went with tubular mounts.

Re: Motor mount direction
maybe why there were bolts missing when I took it apart. somebody else tired of messing with it and it did keep the engine from falling out

Re: Motor mount direction
You can use the clam that bolts to the block but you'll have to buy the correct mount.

Re: Motor mount direction
The 72 SB mounts, (at least both of mine) look like this These bolt to the motor. One 1"-7/16NC bolt the two together

Re: Motor mount direction
I'm going through same battle myself. I went ahead and ordered the cpp sheet metal engine stands with the pro thane bushing they claim an 1"1/4 more clearance than the tubular stands. Waiting patiently for them to get here. Maybe another option for ya

Re: Motor mount direction
Here are some pics of 72 and 73 up mounts. The 72's only have one hump on the top, like yours where the 73's up have two. I wonder if the clam shell plates have been mixed up with newer ones?

Re: Motor mount direction
the PO was a goof... who knows what came from what.
Well a little redneck strategery and I think I got it. I put the perches on the mounts and then lowered it all in and bolted the perches back in. Im now thinking maybe if I had just loosened the perches I could have gotten it but this was easy enough. Now whether this is "correct" or not I don't know but as long as the tranny goes in I think im fine. |

Maybe that will work for you. I agree their site just irritated me. I was actually lucky enough to find them on their eBay store

Re: Motor mount direction
so I just tried to put my headers on and the drivers side now hits the frame. I thought my prybaring would work but its not right. Going to pull the motor back out this weekend and do some more fiddling.
