Help! Intermittent no start

I will drive my C20 about 30 miles on a 90 degree day, park the truck and try to restart after five to ten minutes. Turn key and have complete silence. New starter, engine wire harness, NOS ignition switch. All these items were replaced before started having issue. Strange thing is it will do this randomly without any warning. If truck sits for about thirty minutes it will start.

Anybody run across this? Was wondering if the neutral start switch could have an intermittent issue. The column and switch seemed unusually hot tonight but might be normal..

Thanks in advance.

It's easy enough to jump the natural safety if you think that could be a problem. Just 2 spade connectors and tape them up. try that for a couple of days.

Simple!
It's heat soak of your solenoid/starter.
Multiple cures for it.
Check your grounds and your connections on your battery and your battery cables. install a starter heat shield or wire in a remote solenoid which puts the solenoid up on the fenderwell away from the heat.
Everybody has there own cure.
I've used the remote solenoid with great success.
Here's a link on it.

Sounds like a classic hot solenoid issue. Do you have headers?

Are you saying unplug the neutral safety switch and install a jumper wire into both female ends? I think it's the plug with the two purple wires attached.

Thanks!

Truck has been sitting since last night and still does not start. Any thoughts. I am leaning toward the neutral safety switch.

What you need to do is isolate the starter solenoid and the starter from the starter control circuit. The first thing to do is to check all the connections from the battery terminals, the cables and their connections on the starter and the engine block ground for the negative cable.

Once you have done that you can test the starter by jumping the solenoid battery cable connection (where the positive cable connects) to the S terminal where the purple wire from the key switch connects. This should engage the solenoid and the starter and rotate the engine. Keep in mind that the engine will rotate and even start for a second so disable the ignition and remove the yellow wire on the outside solenoid terminal and be sure the truck is in park and tires are blocked.

If the starter turns the engine over it means that the starter control circuit is the problem. This includes the key switch, neutral switch, and the purple wire.

Here is a picture.
They are using a red wire to the S terminal and have removed the yellow wire to the outside terminal.
