255/85R16 tires on stock `68 K20

Hi,

does anyone know if a set of 255/85R16 tires will fit on a 68 K20 Suburban on the stock 16" wheels without hitting the fender? It has HD springs from the factory front and back.

I know the 235/85R16 will fit as they are about the same as the 7.50-16 tires that are on it now.

Thanks!

The only issue I have had, is the front driver side tire rubs on the steering on a hard lock right turn.

Thanks for the reply. So you ran this exact setup? The tires on your avatar are wider, correct?

On hard lock to the right hitting the steering you mean the drag link? Or the pitman arm? or the steering box?
But the tires did not contact the fenders any? So no trimming or lift needed for the 255/85R16 tires?

Thanks again for your help!

I can't keep the women away now that I bought 255/85-16s. They flock to me and my truck. Lesser men turn their head in shame.

Paying the money was painful, but there's no other tire has the look.

I have 255/85-16 Cooper Discoverer S/Ts on my '72 K2500 pickup with original worn springs that sit lower than stock. They're mounted on the Ford (Accuride) 7" wheels and it may have rubbed lightly when twisted. I haven't put the suspension through it's full cycles, though. I've been driving it around for a couple months and don't pay it any mind,I guess until I had to get twisted more than normal. It's too dark a picture to see how close mine are. I'd like bout a 2" lift

Thank you special-K. I was thinking the same, 2" lift would look great with the 255īs.

Your wheels have less backspacing than mine though, so with my wheels it might cleat the fenders better but might actually come close to the steering box.

Not sure. Maybe I should just stick with 235/85R16 which are almost the same as the 7.50-16 on it now.
