Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
This project followed me home 2 weeks ago.
55 Chevy 3100 Series 1 Cab is solid, at some point it had new cab corners installed. Sitting on a 94 S10 Chassis, with a Camaro rear end. The bed is from a 47-53 Chevy with the slanted rails rather than the horizontal rails of the 54-55. There was also a spare truck that we stripped clean as well.. so I have 2 extra doors, 2extra fenders, 2 grilles, 2 hoods, etc.. A mix of early and late AD parts. Someone did a good job of inserting the S10 bed floor into the original bed. I like the old wood floors, but this might stay.. The tail lights in the roll pan however will have to go.. lol. Anyway, onto some pics.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My wife's favorite color is rust, so we have the rusty fenders sitting in front of it right now, along with an earlier grille. ![]() Box full of parts ![]() ![]() The other fenders ![]() and the parts truck we stripped clean as well ![]() |

Then this weekend I dropped an engine in it that I got from a friend
![]() and started putting the nose actually onto the truck ![]() Have a few parts showing up Monday, but I will put the long weekend to good use, and continue bolting stuff together. |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
Looks awesome so far man. Keep me in mind if you decide to lose the 55.1 grill, fenders, etc. I could use some for my 54. Keep up the good work.

Got quite a bit done this weekend.. Got the cab mounts made, cab bolted down, nose put together, running board mounts, etc.
Got the motor to TDC, dropped in a new distributor, bolted down carb, new plugs, wires, etc.. Ordered a new wiring harness, AN fuel line, etc.. Also got the wheels and tires mounted today... 17s and 18s.. Man it needs to be dropped a bit, but its getting there!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
This weekend I was able to pick up a transmission, run some fuel lines, mount a battery tray, mount some new tail lights, and my wife worked on the interior some.
I like the new tail lights and removed roll pan much better, but that pic will have to wait until I push her out of the garage again. Not much in the way of pics. But here is a quick one. ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
After way too many long weeks at work, I was able to finally work on the truck this weekend...
Got the tranny dip stick in, ran some transmission lines, got the exhaust done, got the original gauges remounted, and got the wiring harness to the rear run.. I was also able to tack some extensions to the front of the bed to take up a decent size gap that was there after the move to the S10 frame.. was just too big for my taste, so I extended it a bit.. Tucks up nicely, everything is pretty much level with the bottom of the frame. ![]() ![]() ![]() few of the bed extension, and stance after the 2" drop in the rear. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
I guess the PO put the S10 bed floor in 2" too low. You did a nice job making it work. most people would never notice that the bed sits higher than normal. How are you going to make the fender match up with the running board? lengthen the fender or lower it?

I think I would rather extend the front of the fender a bit. I think it would be less work than lowering the fender and having to weld up all the extra holes. |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
Weekend Update.
Was able to mount my new Griffin radiator, new transmission cooler, got the engine bay harness wired up (engine turns over with the key) tail light harness wired, pulled headlight harness to the front but have not terminated the ends yet. I also bought a new battery, ordered a new windshield, new back window, (with gaskets) new turn signal/parking lights for the front, and ordered radiator hoses. Next weekend, its put on the hoses, fill the fluids and fire it up! Not much in the way of pics, but here's one. ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
Looks good. Those 18" tires fill the rear wheel well nice. How high are your running boards off the ground? What size are the tires? Looks like a bit of straightening on the grill.

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
Thanks man..
This weekends update.. Went to the pick and pull and found myself an electric fan, and some rear disk brakes. I also got my windshield and back window delivered, which I still need to install. I did get to install the new front parking light/turn signals, along with some radiator hoses. So, for the first time ever, I was able to add some fluids and fire it up!! Here's a quick video clip of it running.. don't mind the construction mess under the hood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ukpp...ature=youtu.be Exciting turn signal pic ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
This weekends update.
When I got the truck there was nothing but a backing plate for rear brakes, so I went to the pick and pull and grabbed some rear disks off a 95 Z28. Bolted right up. I got the headlight switch mounted, and my license plate came in, I love it! I also ordered new power brake booster, all the AN fittings for power steering hoses, and new gauges.. Getting so close I can almost taste it. This is all that was hiding behind the wheels when I got it ![]() CHEAP disk conversion ![]() and the plate I will be running. ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
Weekend update.
Installed some gauges, just the standard oil pressure, water temp, volts, and gas gauge.. Got them all wired up and working. Also modified the firewall and got my power brake booster mounted, got a gas pedal mounted and throttle cable hooked up, and got my power steering lines made. I also ordered a master cylinder, all -3AN braided brake lines, brake light switch, proportioning valve, etc.. New headlight switch on left, new gauges in middle, some LED indicators for high beam and turn signals between originals ![]() You can see the new 8" Dual diaphragm booster here. ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
I finally got to drive the truck further than to the corner in the video I posted.
I put it on the road, took it for a spin or two around the block. Found a sticking front caliper, replaced it.. Then found the rear caliper bracket was not quite centered on the rotor, and it was touching. fixed that and she was good to go. 5 months after trailering home a cab and bed held to the frame with ratchet straps, she is on the road, and made her first trip to work this morning! I also got to get her out on the road and give her a kick in the rear. I am actually quite surprised how quick this thing is! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Another 55.1 on S10 frame project
Ok.
After driving the truck for a bit I was chasing a distributor that kept loosening. Tossed the cheap aftermarket chrome hold down, and got a nice one. That fixed that but it still had a stumble at part throttle.. tossed the Edelbrock carb (never had any luck with those) threw on a new one, and man she runs good.. I am shocked how quick this thing actually is! Anyway, today I drove her around a bit today to check out the new carb. I also took a scotch brite, and pre clean, and scrubbed the black spray paint that was on the door/back of cab/front of cab to find some nice coloring under there.. I like it. Thinking of clearing over the paint to keep the patina the way it is. ![]() |
