Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

Wondering if the truck pan on a 5.3 will sit to low, my truck is lowered 2.5 in front. If it is to low what pan is suggested

Re: Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

The exact height will depend somewhat on what mounts you use, but usually the truck pans hang lower than most folks like on swaps. The "hot rod"/LH8 pan is a popular option, as is the camaro pan, or the aftermarket units if you have the $$ or have a unique clearance issue.

I used the LH8 pan. It is the same one that is in the hot rod pan kit you can buy. Fits good, hangs about level with the crossmember.

Re: Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

I swapped and used a camaro pan. It works and fit great. I think the truck pan is always questionable on the height. It made me nervous using it.

Re: Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

I used the LH8/ "hotrod pan"....you do lose about a quart + a 1/4 capacity , vs the truck pan. However, on a cruiser/driver, I don't see an issue. The pan kit is complete (Summit or Jegs), & includes all hardware, for about $150! No kidding, pan gasket, bolts, pump pickup, & windage tray & nuts! Its like a sore.... well, you get it, you just cant beat it For racing , or higher rpm apps, I do have to agree that the caddy pan looks like a better deal Longhorn

Im running the stock pan as well but the truck is only 3" drop up front. The road would have to be deep out in the very center of it to get the pan are either your off the side of the road.
This it it sitting at running height.

Talking Re: Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

Bagged truck I wouldn't run the truck pan on. Static drop off 3" it's fine I think. I haven't hit anything yet and that is 3300 miles on the 2014 Power Tour also.

That what I figured. I can't think of any roads around here that you would even think about cruisin' layed out! The roads are not very good for that in our area!
I have had to rebuild the whole front end on mine since the Power Tour.

Re: Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

I have a stock truck pan with ECE perches. I am lowered 4" with spindles and springs, I have not touched anything yet. If you have it out, go ahead and change the pan while you have it out.

Glad to see I'm not the only one running the factory pan.

Re: Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

I didn't like the fact that the truck pan still hung lower than the crossmember. I went with an Fbody pan. Plenty of clearance everywhere.

Lots of clearance with the F-Body pan, but it WILL NOT work with the ECE LS conversion engine stand/mounts. The motor sits to far forward and the front of the pan will hit the cross member.

Sounds like ECE needs to redesign their junk.

Bummer!

I used POL tubular stands with TransDapt adapter plates, and it's also in the 6-cyl location so it sits farther back. It's been a while since I measured, but I think there was still enough clearance if mounted in the V8 position. If one were to use the Dirty Dingo adjustable adapters with the POL or stock towers, the F-body pans will work. I'm not familiar with the layout of the ECE stands and mounts.

Lopped the bottom off the truck and welded a plate on and shortened the pickup. Or more accurately, Vic1947 did a fantastic job of it.

Re: Will oil pan on truck motor be to low on lowered truck

Hello to all. if you don't mind, I'll add my two cents. I have an air suspension, that previously used the truck oil pan. I attempted to modify the truck pan but was unsuccessful. In both cases of my oil pan modifications, I either lost oil pressure, or it leaked oil. I ended up buying the Holley 302-1. its a great oil pan. I wished I would have started with that oil pan in the first place. I had to add spacers to the engine mounts to raise the engine 1/4 inch, because the bottom of the oil pan touched the steering center link. one thing I will add is the dip stick tube (Holley suggest) is the same length as the truck dip stick tube. Also, the dip stick (Holley suggest) is approximately 1 inch shorter that the truck dip stick. good luck. Clark

CTS-V pan fan here too. Stock towers with Dirty Dingo sliders on a bagged truck. Pan is within a 1/4" of being flush with the cross member.
