I don't have an air chisel, so it's going to be kind of a pain in the ass. I made a new bracket off the existing piece with 1/2" thick steel, so I may never fix it with a whole new bracket.

oriellys has a couple affordable air chisels that work decent. I bought one when I was lifting my 67...it was an ingersol and it worked pretty good if you have a decent compressor.
that's interesting to see though...what year truck is that?

How did it happen? what caused it? It goes back to the way the factory builds frames they want it light enough and engineered to just do the job. so parts are made as thin as possible and barely do the job. after years of use metal fatuge and rust takes its toll. the reason why the part is riveted on instead of bolts is rivets are cheaper. nothing is overbuilt anymore planned obselence = dezined to fail.

Re: Please tell me I'm not the only one...
It's a 99.Took the truck out wheeling for the first time in it's life and after about an hour, I heard this giant pop. This is what I found. The bolt broke, the shackle broke, and on a probably unrelated issue, one leaf broke. So with a 1/4" think "L" bracket I tied it into whats left of the old one and made a stranger, impossible to break replacement.

This is what it looked like with the broken shackle. I think the young people call this "swag lean"

Rust + 15 year old truck + "wheeling" = broken stuff.
