Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
....hope you like it. I realize not everyone likes this treatment. I have always wanted to try this. I can peel it anytime. Oh, new wheels are here, just need them mounted. Can you tell the top is gray (anthracite).

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
I must say, that came out pretty darn good looking.
But if you didn't ask about the roof being gray, I wouldn't have noticed from these pictures.

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
Thanks for your comments! The roof is pretty subtle.
I used 3 gallons of black plus a gallon of clear and a gallon of gloss and mixed in 100gm of black betty pearl. Oh, and I used 1/2 gal of anthracite on top. It was a lot of fun! Last edited by wrager; 07-10-2014 at 07:27 PM. |

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
It really looks nice! What prep work did you do before spraying it?

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
I bought the sprayer that DYC sells ($156). Others have used the Wagner type sprayers. I have sprayed real paint (few years ago). This stuff is MUCH easier, more forgiving. In terms of prep, I did fix one area that was rusted, but other than that, I just washed it really good. I didn't even tape off the windows or lights. You just peel it off of those areas when dry. I paid $600 bucks for all the dip and accessories (including sprayer). When I did spray my blazer a few years ago, just one gallon of PPG single stage paint was $600.

And here it is w/ the new wheels. I have 1.5" spacers for the rear on order.
Next year will be 18" wheels and 35's. Oh....and we've decided to go to SE GM Truck show next weekend. |

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
wow - looks freakin great man! i just called DYC and inquired about the different colors they have. it was either anthracite grey or the new storm cloud grey pearl. this looks amazing tho!
so you used 5 and a half gallons total? my truck has a black matte epoxy primer on it now and I think I want to do the stormcloud pearl. would you do a base coat of something or since it's already black - just spray the matte clear/gloss mix on there? |

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
One question - can I ask how you sprayed the hood? I've tried twice so far and keep getting stripes. I even took the hood off and still stripes. Can see what's going on since the rest of the truck looks great! Tell me your secrets??
Thanks!!! |

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
I haven't sprayed plasti dip but if its anything like spraying base clear, you have to pay close attention to how far away you are from the panel. You must be at the same distance from the tip of the gun to the panel throughout the entire spray. I also do a 75% overlap on each pass. I would imagine that your problem with stripes is do to an uneven height from your gun to the panel between passes. The hoods on 67-72 trucks are huge so you have to lean way in. Its hard to keep the distance the same.

Re: Sprayed the Burban with Plasti Dip
Just in case anyone is interested. I received an email from Plastic Paint about a 25% off sale.
I assume this is the same stuff? Thinking about using it on my Town Wagon. Around $200 shipped for 5 gallons.
