Re: question on disc brakes
Are the wheels still 5x5 bolt pattern? More than likely 71-87. Ball joints differ from 71-72 and 73-87

Re: question on disc brakes
Being a stock height spindle, they could be a '71-'72 or '73-'87 spindle. Lower ball joints are the same from '71-'87. Upper ball joints are different from '71-'72 and '73-'87. If the lowers are nice and tight, just order a set of upper ball joints to correspond with the spindles you buy. The uppers are much easier to change out, as the replacement will bolt in. Also, another thing to look at is the pivot points on the A-arm shafts, are they the steel grease cup, or rubber bushings? Sometimes it is pretty common that a P.O. will swap out spindles and A-arms. If you have the rubber bushings, I'm willing to bet you have the later spindles. Just a thought to consider... when Hotchkis developed their A-arms for these trucks, they went with the '73-'87 upper ball joints for 2 reasons. The first being that '73-'87 upper ball joints have a larger ball in them, making them a bit more durable. Also, the '73-'87 stock spindle swap was a pretty common way to cheaply add discs to the front before the aftermarket took off, and they leaned toward this thought process. Good luck!

Re: question on disc brakes
Yes the lugs are still a 5x5 bolt pattern. When I can get down to the truck and take some pics I will post them up of the suspension. I'm pretty sure the pivot points are still the grease cups so probably the older original a-arms. Do you guys have any recommendations on a manufacturer of drop spindles that you would suggest. I will post up pics ASAP when I can get down to the garage. Thanks for all the help.

Re: question on disc brakes
So i think i know what i need to do now for ordering the drop spindles. Any brands you guys would recommend over others? Anyone have any they strongly suggest or warn against. It looks like there are multiple different manufacturers that are making them.
