Shifter Linkage
What years and applications would interchange for the shifter linkage between the frame and transmission for a 85 with a TH400 transmission? Where would be the best place to find one?

Re: Shifter Linkage
Pretty sure they were the same for TH350, TH400 and TH700R4. 4L80E is different.
Years ago when my 85 was my daily driver, my 700 let go and I swapped in a 400 for awhile and had no problem with the shift linkage... I would search the local junkyards. Lots of these old squares out there... Hope this helps. |

Re: Shifter Linkage
I know the 4L80E is different. That is why I am trying to find one. I need to modify it for my 4L80E conversion. And don't want to destroy the original one.

Re: Shifter Linkage
Ah, gotcha. Didn't see anything in the post that referenced you installing the 4L80e. If I recall, some of the late model r/v series had a 4l80e in them. I would look for a 90-91 3500 in the junk yard. If you go here http://www.gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=56707 you can see the part numbers you need. The RPO for a 4L80E was MT1. The shift rod you need is 15614394, the shift lever is 15629421 and the bracket is 15614398
Hope this helps. |

Re: Shifter Linkage
Thank you for the part numbers. I have not been able to find them anywhere in the country according to GM. They have all been discontinued. There was only one year of production for the 4L80E in the old body style Suburban and crew cab duallys in 1991. Not much luck in the salvage yards finding one to pick parts from.

Re: Shifter Linkage
Try this website, a search comes up with a couple trucks but may be 700's. Might have to call them. http://car-part.com
