I am planning on buying a 97 Camaro that has a wrecked rear end, what do I need to look for before I buy it. It has been sitting for 2 years, the engine is supposed to run but it is not driveable. It has the auto tranny. Is there anything I need to look for before I lay my money down?

engine and tranny (LT1/4l60e) going in my truck hopefully.

well they should be good, if price is right, still if they dont fire up to get them to should not cost much. check for water in oil or vice versa.
etc. might have a great score there!!!!!!

Also, on the transmission, look for leaks underneth, seepage around the output shaft and so on. Also, pull the dip stick and look at the fluid. Is it nice and red, or is it brown and smells burnt? Oh yeah, since it was wrecked, look for cracks along the bell housing, and tailshaft housing. It might be hard to see up around the bellhousing, take a bright flashlight and a flexable mirror with you.
This is my peice of advice, if you use it great, if not, no big deal. What I always do when looking at something Im interested in buying, I always take notes...always. I never settle for anything. If Iam looking at a car or truck, I find one simular and compare my notes. This way, not only are you not going to have any unwanted surprises, but you might have a little barganing power on your side. I have recently been looking at houses to buy, by using this methood, I have eliminated some real money pits, and hopefully have found the home of my dreams...what house, its got a 4 car garage!!!!!Good luck

If the rear axle, or wither rear tire was hit, then pay very close attention to the tranny. Look to see if the slip yolk still has room to slip into the tranny, if it has bottomed out on the tail shaft, chances are it has taken in some damage to the tranny, and could even affect the engine its self.
