Distance between hub and outer fenders
Does anyone know the approximate distance (for a stock width rear) between the wheel mounting surface and the inner part of the fender?
If you know for the front as well that would be helpful. I'm trying to find the right wheel size, but since my truck is all apart I'm not sure how much space I have to work with, and I sold my old rims a few months back. |

Re: Distance between hub and outer fenders
Rather than hub I meant to say mounting pad where the rim mounts to. Trying to determine how much backspace I need to run a 275 back there. Thinking its between 5.56 and 5.75, but the price different between the two is like $75 a piece.
I believe with the first it would need about 4.79" from the pad to fender for the tire to clear. For the second option it would be 4.6" This assumes a section width of 11.2" for the tire. Probably too little space to matter that much. |

Re: Distance between hub and outer fenders
If you are talking about 275/60R15's, I have those on my Suburban with stock ralley wheels that have 3.75" backspacing. That is with an original width 62" WMS to WMS 12 bolt. If I remember correctly, isn't your 12 bolt a 63.5" WMS to WMS?

Re: Distance between hub and outer fenders
Correct, its 63.5". I was targeting 17 or 18" rims, but 17's seem to have limited tire selection in the 50-55 sidewall aspect ratio area.
Now I'm thinking about going with 255/55/R18x8 with a either a 4" or 4.5" backspace all the way around. I originally wanted to run 275 rear, 255 front, but finding matching tires seems to be a pain, and it would be nice to be able to rotate . . . Argh I been at this for hours trying to decide what to choose. With the 3.75" BS and 62" rear how close to the rear fenders are the tires? And how close to the front? |
